I recently picked up a 1990 Suburban for my daughter. Got the title transferred and registered without any issues. She went to add it to her insurance and they questioned it because it came up as a “cab and chassis”.

I checked the VIN and it starts with 1GB which comes up as “Chevrolet Incomplete”. Everything else matches the vehicle. Title even says Suburban/4DSW. Dug up some other VIN’s and the majority of those are 1GN…”Chevrolet MPV”. Did see one with 1GB but I don’t see a difference in them.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this and know of a difference? Reasoning?

Insurance is resubmitting it and said there shouldn’t be a problem. She just has never seen this before.

I think it has to do with the vehicle originally being used for a municipality. I had a 91 suburban that was originally used by a local police dept as an evidence transfer vehicle. When I ordered the title it came up as a car so I couldn't get truck plates for it but everything went thru. A while later I got pulled over for speeding and the cop ran the vin. He told me that vin didn't exist and there was no vehicle matching it. I had paperwork and we both knew the suburban was right there but he let me go. Said he couldn't write a ticket on a vehicle that didn't exist. He suggested I check with the DMV. Never did and never got pulled over in that truck.
