i need part #'s for the following:

1) pcv/breather grommets

2) Breathers*

3) Oil hole grommet

4) Oil cap *

* Stipulations:
5) This is for 87 and up vortec valve covers.

6) Prefer OE GM, although high-quality after market is ok; Dorman is probably ok, but i'm thinking K+N /Trans-dapt etc. is better.

7) Would prefer an oil fill tube and cap, but cap only is ok too.

i already have a pcv valve so i just need a breather (i'm running an open element type air cleaner)

Thanks!

Which '87-up? lol

There was the "old style" twist cap, and then the later threaded caps. Not sure when one ended and the other began, but I know GM made centerbolt valve covers either way.

I just glanced at the '92-93 parts manual, oddly, I couldn't find the page where the valve covers were shown with all the grommets. Odd, but maybe I missed it. Saw a picture of a valve cover, but only listed bolts, cap, and gasket. It showed a difference in caps between transmissions for those years, so I didn't spend a bunch of time thinking about what I was looking at. Perhaps they changed the valve cover fill location if there was an auto trans dipstick?

Which 87 and newer?

i'm not sure which kind i have----i'm ASSuming twist; The covers are off of an 86 4.3, but i'm ASSuming it's exactly the same as v-8's? i think the v-6's and corvette got the centerbolt covers one year earlier in 86 though?

i think your valve covers are from a van as you have no oil fill cap threads or twist lock tabs . the big grommet on the right on a van takes a press in tube filler with its own cap to get up to the firewall / wiper cowl area .

and to be more correct there NOT vortec covers from 86/87-95 . there center bolt is all . the vortec name didnt come in to major play till the 96-03 v8 engines . 96-00 in truck / suburbans . then vans to 03 last year .

1) The ones in the pic aren't mine. i just thought all centerbolt valve covers were the same........

2) They (gm) called the 4.3 vortec when it first came out, but yes i know---the heads AREN'T vortec.......

i'll try to get a pic of my own shit asap.

Very possible since the 4.3 was very common in the van, both Express/ Savanna and astro /safari

i put the tube yesterday just to prevent any leaking; For a while i've used some tin foil to cover the hole, but it probably didn't work too good. The air cleaner housing breather actually fits the pcv hole pretty good, but let's do it right.

i would prefer an oil fill tube like that, but will settle with just a cap for now.

good luck with finding anything to fill those holes. They are an odd size. I finally gave up and just bought new covers from Jeggs. As a temp fix I siliconed some challenge coins over the holes I didnt need. That worked really well. I bought a set of tall circle track center bolt valve covers to replace them.

If you google GM PCV valve grommet you'll find all sorts of matches/GM part numbers. But I couldn't get the Dorman numbers to cross with any AC Delco numbers.

If the vehicle/engine listings are correct, there were no 1986 S10 4.3L's, so you'll either have to try vans or full size. But I couldn't find any part numbers in the GM illustrated parts manual for the full size trucks either.

Try the link in my signature for the part number manuals, and ignore the parts illustration guide except maybe to get the right section for engine parts, and use the non-illustrated parts manual to see if you can find the individual grommets. Probably going to be in the same or similar section as the valve covers. I can't get to those links where I am unfortunately.

Can you tell me what silicone you used (hopefully oil/heat resistant?)

My new theory is that the oil fill grommet (in post #7) IS NOT leaking; The leaking only occurred when i used tin foil to cover the hole. i then switched back to the stock oil fill tube, but DID NOT clean up the oil which may have made me think that the grommet is causing the leak, but the more i think about it, it probably isn't.

So i think i'm going to try a rubber plug from Home depot, since i am not using the stock fill tube anymore for another reason.

RVT used for valve covers..sorry computer was down for a week

Thanks. i'm thinking of using Permatex "Right Stuff" if necessary.

Anyways, i stayed up very late last night because this stupid problem has really been bugging me and taking WAY too much time and i wanted to get to the bottom of it once and for all. If it was a few drops leaking, i wouldn't care, but this is too much(as seen in post #7). So i took my old grommet out and measured the hole with some calipers. The grommet itself may not be leaking, but i'll explain everything as the problem gets solved.

So, for anyone who gives a plop:

To the best of my knowledge so far:

1) The oil fill /oil cap hole for "swirl-port"/"vortec"/ center bolt valve covers up to 93 at least, (so that's 86-93) are the same size for v-8's and v-6's (aka 4.3). i DO NOT know about after 94 at this point.

2) The inside diameter size of this hole is 30.6 mm OR 1 and 3/16" inch.

3) To the best of my knowledge, the correct grommet for this hole is GM part # 10108402 (which replaced old part #3982983)

oil can blow by the stock filler tube if the grommet gets old and crusty..mine was doing that...esp at high rpms or when your on an angle and oil pools to that valve cover..
