So I went and looked at a Soobie tonight, and it seems like a decent rig for $550... except it needs a water pump bad, to the point the pully sheared off the pump and coolant runs right out when it's poured in. It's an 82 with the flat 4 EA81 in it.

We got it started when I jumped it with my truck and it seemed to run pretty decent. So what I arranged for is I'll buy and install a pump if the gal will hold the car for me, this way I know the drive train is solid.

Anyways, it looks easy. Worst case a fan might have to come out, but otherwise it looks like a few bolts and hose clamps and it's out..

Anyone know these rigs well and offer any advice? I've never fixed a rig outside of my shop before, but it looks easy. The car only has 175k on it and it started right up with a jump(dead battery).

Man i dont remember what the water pumps were like but Friends and i have owned several of those cars threw the years, they are sweet cars! Rallyed the piss out of them with out trouble. Took them to the sand dunes, woods, serious stuff and they always got us home! One of them randomly broke a pushrod just cruising down the road but thats the only real problem we ever had. Does that one have the 4lo lever? cause that makes them more bad ass!

Yep, selectable 4 wheel drive :D

I'm really hoping it turns out to be good to go..

The funny thing is, it has power windows. 4 speed manual too.. and a bitchin' Pioneer tape deck :haha:

i had a 86 with the 4 speed but it was only 2 wheel drive hatchback 2 door.that thing would go where my buddies trucks on 33 inch tires.only problem i had was getting high centered.it had a good skidplate on it though so id just back up and gun it over and skid throufgh what was stopping me.lol.good lil cars too.water pump is simple.4 boltsand out if i remember right.it was right up front too which made it easier.i used the rubberized gasket and a lil silicone and i was driving in under an hour.
