I found a 71 c10 steering box locally. Just wondering if there are certain yrs of the 2wd steering boxes that are better than others for crossover steering swap?

In a squarebody the early ones are a flare fitting, the later ones use an o-ring. Match the hoses to your application. I would assume a 71 is the flare.

I think you will need a 73 up for your rig. And make sure you get the right fitting. If yours is a 89 you’ll need a box with the o ring style lines, I think.

Actually I believe they are the same. I installed an 86 box on a 70 frame before. As mentioned make sure you check flare vs o ring.

The casting is identical between flare fittings and oring fittings. GM just added a suffix by stamping a letter at the end of the casting number to make it easy to identify on the oring version.

Picked it up and has a remanufactered stamp on it. And oring style hose adapters so I am good. Now just need frame plates to weld in. Thanks everyone.
