i have a 73 blazer it has a full rebuilt 454 with around 450hp and a bullet proof th400 and a 14ff in the back and a d60 up front. it has a 8ich lift with 38 inch tires no top just rag top. again this is a full of frame restore so its even better than what it is brand new. i have a freind selling a nice 24 foot toyhualer i really want, question is will i kill myself lol? just for prospective i drive a full 6-7 hours to glamis....the car is full reiable i just want to know if its too much hassel

first off where about in Granada Hills are you? I'm in Northridge over by CSUN.

Second a K5 really isn't made to tow much weight. Even with the combo you're running. 24foot seems like it would be a little heavy. That's another question, how much does this trailer weigh? It's not to say it couldn't pull it but I'd be a little hesitant to tow it as far as the dunes. I could see around tow to get it from A to B maybe but all the way to Glamis is a good bit of driving. Also what gearing is in the 60/14?

im off sepulvida and chatsworth. i think i have seen you driving around with the half top? i have seen you parked at starbucks on sepulvida. right now its all a work in progress my blazer everything is half done....the motors finished and the tranny. im just waiting for the body shop to finish the body..then interior lol its completely stripped so there is alot of work..

wasn't me. I haven't driven my blazer in about a year now. It always has the top on and I never go to starbucks.:haha::haha:

I regularly tow a 4 place snowmobile trailer (22') with my K5. I'm guessing that even when loaded with 4 sleds packed with snow/ice it doesn't weigh as much as the toy hauler though.

I've got 8" of lift (4" shackle flip and 4" springs), have used 38's, 36's and currently 37's. The 38's (bias ply) had 15" rims with a lot of sidewall. These gave me the most problems. The 36's were bias too, but were heavier (old Hummer tires). 37's are the newer radial Hummer tires, these are the best of the bunch.

My gearing is 4.88's with a Sm465/205, D44/14B. I have no problems going down the highway or passing people when I have to. Actually get decent gas milage when loaded too.

If you keep the speed within reason and allow youself time to stop (I love my 4 wheel discs for towing) you should be fine. The biggest mistake I see people make when pulling with a lifted truck is not having the proper tounge weight/angle. Without the proper setup the trailer will push the truck around, which gets exagerated by the short wheelbase. Are there better trucks to tow with, yes. Can you do it, yes. Look at it this way, if you buy a trailer it gives you a reason to buy a new truck to tow it with.

i am on a budget i spent more than enough to buy a new truck on my blazer...but the main reason is i need the blazer to go light trailing with freinds when we get to camp and to go around glamis and not get stuck.....if i buy another truck then i need a rhino lol....

The limit for a Blazer according to GM is 5,000 lbs max trailer weight, with 480 lbs tongue weight. Nearly all toy haulers, when loaded, are going to be dangerous with a low lift Blazer with 8" it is that much more risky. If you want to go with a 24' trailer, you are going to need to look at light or ultra-light trailers, in order to get the weight to a manageable level. The short wheelbase of the Blazer really cannot be helped much, and it has a major effect on towing.

To give an easy example, Krusty is currently sitting on 2" springs 33's, and my 12' Apache pop-up trailer pushes it around. That trailer loaded weighs in at 2230 lbs, according to the certified scale near my house. A little bit of a cross wind can make it a real handful, and it is only about 3/4 as tall as my Blazer currently. Axles do nothing to increase tow capacity, wheelbase does.

If you insist on doing the toyhauler, consider the dry weight of the trailer, plus the water/other consumables, plus whatever toy/s you plan to haul, and then think about the increased leverage that the long wheelbase of the trailer is going to have against your very short wheelbase Blazer. Toyhaulers could be done, but you are going to have to look at something smaller if you plan to tow it any distance with a Blazer.

ok at this point i know im going to have a really hard time towing....im going to look into a smaller one...my main concern is i need to fit 2 quads and a rhino....and sleep 5. o well i guess im screwed back to the drawing board

You may want to look at something like the expandable trailers with the front mounted toy deck. They would haul both quads, but probably not the rhino at the same time. Many have enough room to sleep 5, and they are much lighter than a full size toy hauler. The advantage is the toy deck is on the front, which increases the tongue weight, but also helps with sway by having the added weight in front of the wheels.

I know I have seen some 19 footers running around behind Blazers, but nothing that was a toy hauler type. I just may not have seen it though, so don't get discouraged. Take a look at some manufacturers websites and look at the weights, you may find just what you want and have it be towable.
