I got my 73 K10 with the front driveshaft missing. Picked up a new one on ebay, what hardware do I need to get it installed?

Dana 44 front axle, NP205 transfer case.

U-joint straps should be all you need. I would check the U-joints closely and maybe even change them while you have it out.

I would also remove the dust cap on the slip and separate them and glean out all the old grease and clean the splines. Reassemble and grease. I would tell you to match-mark the two ends before disassembly, but by looking at the picture (may be wrong, can't say for sure) your yokes are out of phase. Like maybe someone separated them and then stuffed them back together. Definitely don't run it like this. Horrible vibration, blown u-joint, busted oil pan, fire, mushroom cloud, armageddon, etc.

Also, arent all GM 205s front output flanges? That CV is missing the flange on the end. Thats how mine is anyways.

older firsr gen 205 had 2 yokes .

1 was non c/v

other was that style c/v head.

then around 77-78ish thay went flat flange.

also if early style c/v head then its a 10 spline front output only on a 205 case. flat flange got 30 spline in gm .

Definitely will do. How do I get them back in phase?

4 little special bolts for the c/v head to tcase yoke.

and as said ubolts for the axle end.

Are the bolts really special or something I can pick up grade 8 locally? Any hints on the bolt size and threading?

That's how mine is, pic below!

Ahhh, I forgot about all that extra info.

Just a thought, but it might make sense to pull that bearing retainer, and replace the yolk seal. And also replace the seal right below the yolk retaining nut. Its shaped exactly like the splines on the output. Craziest seal I have ever seen. Mine leaks (until I get my doubler in as I got another 205 with 32spline outputs) and it drives me up the wall.

been a long time since i played with that style but check fitment first as i think you have a non c/v yoke possibly on there.

i think its 1/4 or 5/16" fine thread bolts but smaller head than normal if i recall.

Thanks. Hope it's not anything too funky so I can find parts close to home.

While I'm at it, might as well crack the Dana 44 and see what's going on. I assume the front driveshaft was taken off for a reason...

First solid axle 4wd diff I'm working on. What do I need to know?

Take the cover off and look around? Do I need a new gasket when I put the cover back on? What torque do I tighten the bolts to? What gear oil and how much do I refill with?

Should be fun!
