What do you need to do for BB13'

I would love to make a future BB in my rig. (that's been parked for 2 months)

I'll play even though I have a hard time getting time off work Aug- the mid of October.

Critical stuff, I need to install doubler, have shafts built, make shock mounts, and mounts up hydro assist.
Redo exhaust.

Would like to do a rear torque arm before exhaust tho.
Down the pipe, bumpers, and sliders. Mounts 2 winches and another battery.

That about sums it up

What has caused it to be parked? If it's some mechanical issue that causes need for the doubler I get it otherwise why not get it in service again and just use it?

countless leaks to fix
Cage
60
Doors
Tweak Motor till it Runs like its suposed to
Fuel injection
get rid of Wires add lights
New Brakes
Maybe new Springs ugh
Better Pay
C you all soon

Tyron, you were at BB this year. What on that list do you ACTUALLY have to do to attend BB in 2013.
Better Pay
Get motor running good

The rest is a CK5 percieved list of things that you have to have, that in reality you haven't for how many years now and you have come to the event and enjoyed yourself right?

Don't get locked down into the mindset that you have to have every piece of equipment known to man on the vehicle to use it. Enjoy the baby steps in the middle too because you might just find that what you have suits what you need and want to do. I will throw JMS under the bus on this one.

It took him forever to go to a 60 int he front, and he still has a carb. I think he has TBI sitting in the garage but he chooses to go out and use instead of work on it till you can't use it. IMO JMS gets more quality "wheeling" in than 95% of the guys on this site and he doesn't even live in the same state as his blazer. It might not be "hardcore" but it's what he enjoys and that is what's important.

My first BB was 2003. I showed up for Sunday on hells revenge after working 72hrs straight through to get the buggy done. No side panels, no driving exp. in it, poly bump stops no headlights etc. It ran and had seats.

I drove it that way for at least a year, Ya I tinkered here and there but the best thing I did was keep it in service and only fix what was actually wrong with it. I ran stock spicer axle shafts and u joints in the front, stock TBI etc. After a while I did bump stops some tuning etc. but largely left the vehicle alone and I like to think after 4 years or so I was actually getting the most out of it.

Am I making sense to anyone?

He's got the TBI installed and tuned now with Jason's help.

Thanks. :D

I do have TBI now, almost 2 years, and like it a lot. But I did season the setup by storing it in the garage for 2 years... :eek1:

And: yes.

Without Jason4x4's gracious help, TBI wouldn't have happened on my truck. :waytogo:
Things like a TBi swap just doesn't fit into my timeframes I have available to be in AZ.

By the way, the throttle response with the TBI has made me lazy - I found myself driving more with just throttle, rather than modulate forward progress with the left foot on the brake - which I find has beneficial effects on suspension actions, and gives more overall control.

Thanks. :D

Having the TBI done is a new world huh!

Your like preaching to the choir though. You get it.

This times a billion. Once I get the cage redone I intend to go wheeling alot. I mean alot. I missed most of this year due to the cage. Horton is a very basic very boring leaf sprung rig. But I go wheeling every other weekend at home. Don't always make it on trips but I build to wheel not just to build.

In addition have been to Moab in everything from a stock zuk to Horton and everything in between, totally locked up flexy zuk, small lifted zuk. Toyota pickup, blazer on 38s rear locked, blazer on 40s locked all the way around, been with my buddies in a ramcharger, early bronco even a couple Jeeps. Some so modded out they cost more than my house. I have always had fun though.

So get out and wheel thats the best prep you can do for Moab.

2 years ago was the first year I even had decent gears before then it was a th350 and a 203 you don't need a doubler, you don't need super flexy suspension. You NEED a dependable rig and experience driving it

Let's put that statement in context.
There's currently 69,980 members on this board - this means that 3,499 members get more quality "wheeling" than me. So everybody who actually reads this part of the board relax - you're covered.

Not to be an ass but tighten your u bolts. Like Mnorby says they need to be done VERY regularly. I would also make sure that the first few times a new u bolt is tightened that they hit torque several times.

In 2011 when I went with Stephen on UA we did u bolts in the shop, before the first trail day, <zero miles on them but they still took a bit, then about two days later and then again. That's like what four or five times in a week and 1,000 miles.

Like Brent said, grade 8 bolts for center pins, New grade 8 u-bolt 2 weeks before BB12 torqued to 130ftlbs. Drove around neighborhood 25 miles or so, re-torqued. I did Greenday on Friday, then re-torqued Saturday morning before the Trifecta.

I'm thinking it's due to all of the spring wrap I'm having in the front.:dunno:

Edit: I didn't use lock nuts on the center pin, maybe they came loose and that caused the problem.

Did I see somewhere that you are running shims? steel or alum if so?

Well I got nothing for you. But with 52's up front I could see axle wrap causing you these issues. 52 look great on the surface but it seems they can cause some issues that are hard to nail down and maybe this is one of them?

I doubt it, but that is possible.

Going on the theory that all the center pin does is locates the axle for assembly and holds the spring pack together there is no way that the nut on the center pin loosening up a bit could cause that.

Of course using that theory Grade 5 vs. Grade 8 shouldn't matter either.

Looking back at my current rig setup I don't care much for 52s in the front. They stick out there a lot farther and make me have to hit the vertical walls at an angle. My old TC 47s really did everything I needed. I have my front leaves kinda limited with my bumps to keep them from negative arching and straps to keep them from bending in half at the top plate. I only use 11" or my 14" front shocks. Granted I dont see but only a 3 or 4 guys in this discussion even needing any decent approach angle but the 47" factory length springs do get you a little better for about the same performance. Granted that will be addressed on my rig in the next few months and plenty of testing time before any big trips next summer.

I'm done with leaf springs on the front, I broke a front leaf on this run and I broke one of my leaf spring studs on the D60, which I have already upgraded to 3/4".
I'm not sure if I'll be there in the blazer next year or in a different rig (S-10), but whatever I'm in it will have coilovers or air shocks up front.

1. Buy a truck

2. Trick it out

3. Roll it once

4. Put in a cage

5. Test the new cage

6. Get to BB13.

I'm with you on this one. So far the only issues I have had with my truck are due to it having front leaf springs. I figure I am going to just replace the spring pins and replace the missing shim, and save my money. If I can swing a 4-link by the end of March, I'll 4-link the front, if not I'll do custom Alcans and see if that fixes it.

I'm tired of damaging the same sh!t every time. I want to damage something new next time, maybe body panels. :tongue1:
