I have an 87 K5 that came from a county that does not require so it has no smog pump and no cat. What all came on the 87 for smog and does anyone know what would be required equipment to take it in for a smog check?

Gotta have a cat, no computer control, so I think that they would just sniff the exhaust.

Cat, EGR, Evap, I don't *think* the first year TBI's had AIR, but I could be wrong, someone can come and correct me. Mines not at my house to look. :)

I have an air pump. Dunno if it pumps, but it is there. If the manifolds dont have AIR injection, you can buy the kit from summit- drill some holes, weld er up. Or just buy a pair which has it.

You also need to have cats, O2 sensor working, and a charcoal canister.

Im pretty certain my canister isnt working. :doah:

Before I stroked it, my '87 had an AIR pump. I may still have the pump if you need it, but I demolished the pipes when removing it. :hack:

Wow I have none of that stuff guess I need to find a book that shows everything??? Thanks for the info!

I guess it depends on where you take it. They may not do a visual check for it. And if they do, that doesn't mean it has to be working or even hooked up as long as their sniff test passes.

If you do need it, your best bet is to check the salvage yard for all the components. For instance, you need exhaust manifolds that have the fittings for the AIR tubes. If you don't have an AIR pump, I doubt you have the right exhaust manifolds.
