Think about this for a second, if a PTO could only work when the truck is in motion or in gear how does a wrecker/rollback use its winch to pull the car up? To engage the PTO on manual you push the clutch in and put the tranny in neutral then engage the PTO. When you let up on any manual trans clutch in neutral the main shaft is still spinning.. So with the PTO engaged and the clutch out the mainshaft drives the PTO instead of the output gears....
it would seem to me that such a contraption could only be run off of a truck in motion (or at least with wheel spin), as this is the only time the gears in a manual tranny or t-case are moving. is this correct?
but its ok - i'll still invent something super kick @ss, so don't fret, be assured, the gears in my head are spinning. i will have something which will make you want to give me money (as i know you are all so eager to do).

i think i want something more crazy than that - i'm also not sure an oba set up on the pto would be as economical as can be done otherwise. we'll see what i come up with.
