im finally getting a cb radio and antenner furr christmas. i know they have a 102" whip antenna but seeing if there is anything else. its going on my 89 bonneville for a while then my truck.

ic ould care less what it makes my car look like so bigger the better

i ran dual firesticks on my previous truck. right now i have one on my K5. looks great and works great IMO

I just took a 6,000 plus mile trip this summer. I had a CB in truck and to be honest not many people were on it. I like the K40 brand and they seem to work fine. The thing to remember is the middle of vehicle (roof) gives you the best ground plain.

I would like to put a 102" on my rig in the CUCV mount on side if I ever get where I can. I had one on the side pillar of a 1979 K20 and the down side is drive thru windows and tree branches. Bang Bang Bang and then there is the noise as it drags under the drive thru roof.

you said not to many people were on it? would this not make a good chritmas present for me? what else could i ask for? haha my dad said anything under 100 bucks, im greatful for whatever i get but thats wehat he said, im not a spoiled little kid i drive a 20yr old truck and a 18yr old car

I have a CB in my daily driver and pick up chatter every day around town. Very good for traffic reports.

I run a Wilson 62" 1000 series whip on both my DD and my offroad truck. The DD has it mounted on the roof, and the offroad toy has it on the fender. The DD has far better range, I share a single radio between the two trucks and move it around as needed.

That is to be commended! Not many people see it that way.

If you are wheeling with a group of people and they have them they are fun and a must. What I think I ran into was due to cell phones and satellites a lot of truckers weren't on them. I was on Old 30 going through IL and IA till Des Monies. I was on some HWYs and old routes too. This gives you the map http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=103345881582372895570.0004508295e45a7af80f1

Hey if that is what you want for your truck do it. I had cell phone, up link for note book, GPS and my AAA gold membership. The CB is still in my truck.

On my k5 I have a simple $40 Wilson 1000 mag-mount that works great and has good range. On my Kenworth I'm running a Wilson 2000 and they run around $60, atleast that's what it was when I got it about 8 years ago.

With the 1000 I get a few miles and its perfect for me for trail and around town when I have my radio in it. The 2000 I can get up to 40 miles or across the country if there is good skip.

It depends on what radio you use too, I have a Uniden PC76XL that has been peaked and tweaked so it puts out a lot more power than stock.

I'm running a Wilson 5000 trucker. The thing has good range around town (about 5-6 miles) and i've chatted to people in other countries but i have Cobra 148GTL that also has two side bands. Early morning or late night is best for hitting the skip.

Those 5000's are great. I used to run two of them on my Peterbilt a few years back with my Galaxy 99. They would walk and talk all over the place.

I don't think which antenna you run is anywhere as important as the radio itself. With CB you're severely limited in range by the power output anyway so none of them are going to perform noticeably different.

If you want to get into a radio that offers more potential look up the requirements for getting a ham radio license. There are usually clubs in many local area's that give classes too. www.arrl.org

I run a Uniden 78Elite and it's a good unit along with a 102" SS whip. Regardless of what brand/antenna you go with spend the money (after you install it in the truck) and take it down to a qualified CB shop that can tune it for you. Red Monkey (here in town) does tunes for like $30... they test it in the vehicle and then pull the CB out and make internal changes then hook it all back up and tune it as a complete system. Not bad for the price.

This is very true, witch is why I didn't make any distance claims. My radio was a galaxy DX93T twin turbine with mods for CB channels and it put out about 400watts. It is a 10 meter ham radio. Witch is illegal and I don't remember where I got it or who I sold it to.

I could talk a long distance, even here in mountainous terrain. I could also walk on others trying to talk.
On a side note! If you get a huge radio like that it will fry a cheap antenna in a hurry!

Currently I don't have a radio in my pickup.

X2 on the Wilson 1000 center mounted. With the little cobra I have it was perfect right out of the box. I put the meter on it to tune it, and found I didn't need to, it was peaked just right. Just lucky I guess.
