What is my gear ratio?

There will be numbers stamped on the side of the ring gear (you may have to spin it to see them), that's what we would need pictures of.

there should be some numbers on the ring gear...the caps tell you nothing.

edit: beat me to it...

It wont be on the bearing caps. Numbers are stamped on ring gear ( but not always). The best way is to count number of teeth on ring gear and do the same for pinion. Divide ring gear number by the pinion gear number and that will give you ratio.

crap it's all sealed up now :doah: I am going to jack it up and count hou many times the driveshaft turns with 1 tire rotation

I see you have an 86 with a 305...I'm betting it's 3:08...

same as my parents.

what did it come with stock, do you know?

I got the 305 from your build thread as when you removed it...

You can also look at the codes in your glove box.

I bet the gear ratio is 3.08:1.

My 84 K10 had 305 and 3.08s. HORRIBLE. The engineer that suggested it should be drug down the street by his testicles.

Exactly! The thought process of trying to get better mileage out of a square box with higher gears, brung on the fail. My 83 and 84 both have 3.08's soon to be 3.73's in the 83 and 4.10's in the 84 can't wait for swap time.

good boy. I have a ton in a set of 1/2 tons. I was stupid.
