The only time I've had to do it, I just used an a drill, with a bit slightly larger than the shank of the rivet. Once the head was off, I used a drift and drove it out.
It was the drivers forward spring mount.
I don't remember it being a slow process, but it was 6 years ago.
BTW, when it came time to re-assemble, I used grade 8 bolts with a shank that was snug in the hole. Tightening it, drew it into the hole.
They have never come loose.
