I had an unexpected rear axle failure last week as some of you know and while I knew that the shocks on my 89 Jimmy were shot, it was confirmed when I pulled the rear end and I could push the shocks up and down with my pinkie... So I think I should probably go ahead and spring for new shocks while I'm rebuilding the axle. I've mainly been looking at pro comps (rs3000 and rs9000 I believe) and bilstien 5100s. I like the price tag of the pro comps but I have read that bilstiens are the best. My truck is stock and it rides pretty good except for the bouncy and body roll from the current original shocks. Also I have quads in the front. I want the truck to drive good on the street and be able to run down bumpy dirt roads without giving me a consussion. What shocks are you guys running and how do you like them?

You get what you pay for. Pro comps will work, rancho 9000 will be better and bilstiens would be ever better. You will be surprised the ride difference between them and your old ones. Buy what you can afford
What about the rancho 5 and 7000's? They are a little cheaper

Tenneco makes all the Monroe rancho procomp skyjacker etc etc. bilstiens are excellent .

Alrighty. Any online stores you guys know of that have them for a good or better price? If not I am going to go and hit up 4wp, we have a store nearby.

Monotube is the key benefit with bilstein vs cheaper options. Compare monotube to monotube and the playing field will level.
Yes. Everything from lift kit companies are twin tubes (unless specifically marketed as a monotube). Whether Rancho is better than Gabriel is like arguing which flip-phone is best while everybody else is on smartphones. The basic Bilstien is like an adjustable Rancho with somebody twisting the knobs up and down depending on whether you're cornering or hitting bumps.

Everyone raves about the 5100 bilsteins, and for an off road truck, they are probably great. I drive my rig mostly on the street, and they were way too soft for me. Too much body roll.

If you have a stock height truck, you can get bilstein hd's or 4600s or whatever their OE style replacement is. I like those a lot better. They aren't jarring, but are a lot firmer and control body roll a lot better.

And they are cheaper than the 5100's. You just have to be stock height.

Yeah I just looked and it looks like the 4600s are a stock replacement, better suited towards a DD, while the 5100s are geared towards lifted trucks that see a lot of offroad time.
