What tool to remove Spindle Nut ***UPDATE***

Well the tool I ordered came in and it DOESN'T fit so i'm back to square one. I might just have to take it in and have them swap the studs out. This is seriously ****ing retarded.
 
Have you tried just punching it off? I bet you could get it off no problem. Once you get it to turn just a hair it'll come out by hand.
 
dude, a couple really solid smacks with a hammer will take off one that has been on 20 years, IIWM, I would beat the piss out of it until it came loose
 
yeah well then you would be buying a new spindle because you ruined the threads. That isn't the way I want this to go. You are APPLYING standard knowledge to an NONSTANDARD nut. I linked a thread where was also a problem. No solution was found there either to my knowledge. It may be keyed or have some type of lock on the nut. It will move about 1/8th inch clockwise and counter clockwise but that is it. That is after being careful with a nice size drift.

Ahhhh. Somebody put the locknut in with the pins UP rather than down ... or you are hammering on the locknut, and not the threaded nut.

IIWM, I'd spray the hell out of it with brake cleaner, get the grease out, take a good gander at what you have.

Also, have you tried to pull the offending fastener straight out? If it is the locknut, it may not be threaded and may come out that way...

mineral spirits applied liberally, followed by some brake cleaner and get us some new photos. I don't think that's the lock nut, mostly because there's 6 slots inside it..

have you taken the outside nut off, or is this it?
 
This is the outside nut. I can't even get to the inside one yet. It clearly is in person you can see how it threads onto the spindle. I'm thinking someone at some point installed it incorrectly or from some weird collection of parts.
 
I'm wondering if it is a military thing as through my search on the web the few i have seen have been from military blazers. Wonder if there are any CUCV mechanics out there that remember this.

OK I DID remove the snap ring it is gone. Now the steel soliders link ^^ might be on to something. You cant loosen it if it has like a driftwood key in there.

Ah yes... I've seen 14 bolt spindles with a square key in the slot to hold in the locknut. Never seen one on a D44/10b, but stranger things have happened, and that would 'splain why it turns a smidge but won't go any farther.

Well Those bastages over at steel soliders were dead on. There was a key on there and a 4-40 screw treaded into it and it came out. Then a gentle tap with the hammer screwdriver and it was loose. Studs came out with a small tap from a 5lb sledge too. perfect!!

So for future reference there WAS a 6 slot spindle nut in CUCV applications. here is the proof. Remember you need to find the slot filled with what looks like a small plug with a hole in it. Thread in a 4-40 screw and pull it out. Then its standard.

Dang ... never seen a key that big, nor one with a threaded hole to remove. Clever way to do it, though, easier than farting around with a pick.

That thing is exactly like my 14ff hub retaining nuts, a key that is inserted after the proper bearing adjustment is made then a small flat wire retaining "clip" (for lack of a better term) that covers the key and latches into the thread of the spindle.
