I'm going to look at an 80 k5 tomorrow. If it's not too rusty I'll pick it up for cheap. I want this for a future trail rig for when my pick up body or frame are finally done. Untill then I want to swap some parts if possible. What will swap. I need a windshield in my current rig and will the doors work. I know the fenders look different but do they bolt up?

Probably common knowledge but I searched and found nothing.

Thanks,
JP

There are a few differences between an 80 and the 81 and up versions.

1. The entire front clip is different. In 81 the cowl was removed from the hood and made stationary. In 80 the cowl is part of the hood and the wipers are mounted on shorter stanchions to allow them to clear the hood.
2. The hood is bigger on pre-81 versions.
3. You cannot combine early and late parts, it must be the entire front clip, or nothing at all. At least I believe that is the case.

The windshield should be the same for all years, same with the doors for all half-top years.

Now if it is a clean rust free 80 tub, we just might have to find a way to get it down here for me. I would love to get a rust free tub to replace mine.

I need the windshield and can probably get 200 for the tires. I've been wanting a k5 trail rig since my second kid was born. Right now I can't take the whole family on the trail. The plan would be everything outa my rig (my sig) including my own fabed stuff into this k5.

It looks like it is going to have the same rust issues in the rear quarters as mine does. Mine is just showing it more. Although that one is just wrong, it has round headlights, and that is just plain wrong on an 80. Of course, that is just my opinion.

I love being able to take the whole family wheeling in mine, guess I should fix the brakes so we can take it out again.
