Here is the deal. I drive a 78 blazer as described in my sig. It is my DD and I was planning on taking it to college in the fall. In order to do this however I figured that I should do a few things to it before school.
-Replace fulltime transfercase that is going out with a 208 and cv shafts
-Rebuild the 350 tranny
-Rebuild the engine
-Locker in the rear
-4.88 gears
-Disk brakes for rear (already ordered)

My brother propositioned that we combine his truck and mine.
His is an 86 suburban
-Recently rebuilt 350
-Recently rebuilt 700r4
-Np208
-4" suspension 3"body
-1/2 ton axles
-Baby sh!t brown paint (rough body in a few areas.)
-worn out 39.5" tsl's

So we would come out with a suburban with a,
-12" suspension lift
-3" body lift
-Freshly rebuilt engine,tranny
-4 wheel disks
-CV driveshafts
-3/4 ton axles
-My good TSL's

Here is the decision making part. I have become pretty attached to my blazer, and I dont want to see it just sit. I will most likely never touch it again if I do this.
But putting our trucks together is the cheapest way for me to get a decently reliable vehicle. And it will still be able to take on some nasty mudholes.
Now i know you guys for the most part are against lifting trucks this high and such, but that is what I like. And these types of threads can be annoying but I intend to take the opinions and use them when I decide. I am on the fence on this one. I could go either way.

How they sit at the moment:

Help me out guys!

why not just throw his motor and tranny in the K5?

well. that is what I first wanted to do. He never drives the suburban anymore anyway. But the only way he wants to combine them is this way. He likes the longer wheelbase. I disagree. He also doesnt even see my blazer as a real road worthy vehicle for some reason. Mainly because of how much work we had to put into it to get it going. I dont understand it. But I will try to talk to him about this route.

fix your blazer....then you won't ever have to worry about you both needing a 4x4 at the same time in different places...or who gets the truck this weekend!

Keep the Blazer I just see bad things going on with you two sharing a truck.

Yeah, I agree. I've tried sharing things with my older brother, it just never works. men don't share their toys well. :doah:Thats a nice looking blazer, rebuild kits for motors aren't too expensive, or look on craigslist for a motor, tranny, ect. shouldn't cost you too much.

I agree on keeping the blazer. take whatever parts you need from the sub. maybe get a little beater car for everyday, save money on gas :D

I think your asking for trouble by combining a family vehicle - It's like working for family - It doesn't. It's also like telling or hearing that it doesn't work, no one believes you until they've experienced it.

Let your brother have his Sub and let him do whatever he wants with it. Get a 205 from a junk yard and make your own shhhtuff work.

x8000 on avoiding the mixed build. sounds like he's pretty stubborn and you'd just end up butting heads constantly. plus, i can't imagine sharing a vehicle with anybody. i'd always be paranoid about them not taking care of it. I think you'd be making a mistake to go with a longer wheelbase offroad. i'm not saying there are NO advantages, but you lose manueverability and even worse, your breakover angle would suffer. that's one of my favorite things about the k5s. bone-stock they have better breakover than pretty much any modern vehicle.

grabbing an engine/tranny and all the goodies out of a wrecked 88+ pickup would be a good option.

as far as the height, do what you want. i wouldn't go that tall, myself (i like my low cog for off-camber stuff and rocks) but if you're into mud, that's a good way to go. plus, it looks cool :D.

I'd say that you keep ou stuff yours, and his stuff his.

If he doesn't use the burb that much, then buy his engine/tranny/t-case off of him.

You like your blazer, so keep your blazer.

Like stated before, never share something like that with a family member. That's bad news....

other than the tires, I fail to see what part of your truck made it into his.

The lift,axles,tires, stereo.

Well i forgot about this thread for a few days.. I suppose mixing is a bad idea. I would like to buy his engine, trans, case. but he for some reason doesnt want to do that. He says he doesnt want another junk car sitting around. I guess a huge suburban on 4 flat tires is an exception?

Hey Sam. Build the blazer yo. Then, talk hot chicks into driving the miata nekked, take pics, then put em in the pig pen.
