What year did GM start using the 16" wheel?

I am sure it would have been before then. My '85 burb brochure shows 16" wheels. I figure it is when ever a D60 went in.

a friend of mine's 3/4 ton truck k 20 1977 had 16 inch wagon wheels from the factory. one of those skinny ones. like 6 or 7 inches wide. he sold the truck

Just to point out that 16+" wheels would only be on 3/4+ ton trucks, i.e. Burbs and pickups ... for 73-87/91, anyway, I'm pretty sure that all 1/2-tons had 15" wheels.

I picked up a 1/2 ton '73 a couple years ago for parts and it had stock 6 bolt 16+ rims on it. I had never seen that before and wouldn't even have noticed if the owner hadn't pointed it out.

16" wheels

My dad bought an 81 K20 brand new and it had 16.5 wheels on it from the factory. I beleive the first year was 82 or 83 for the 3/4ton and 1 tons.

We had a 74 K20 and a 79 C30, they both ran 16.5's. Although they may have been options earlier, IIRC factory 16's became common in the 89 and 92 model years when the body style switched. Standard 4x4 tires were 245/75 R16's with 265/75R16's as an option (265...standard on Z71 package trucks). Only light duty (1500 and 2500 non C6P) 2WD trucks had 15 inch rims. Dunno if that'll help, hope it does.
