Whatchya building for BB16?

You should try driving it more than once a year :burnout:
That was the idea this weekend, however on the second obstacle we discovered that once hot enough the computer shuts it down. Trying to do more playing but still have too many family obligations as well.

How hot did you get it? Mine did a quick spike to 230 once while bleeding the coolant and it never shut off.

My truck is running and shifting..... For now....

Hmmm, you know that little peg that the needle sits on when the engine is cold. So it sat on that little peg after making one complete clockwise revolution. Guessing 260? Kind of hard to say not having numbers over there on the gauge and all.

But it still had good oil pressure so I'm not really worried.

Didn't see any boiling coolant, higher altitude even helps with that warning sign. I saw the gauge pegged short term but I bet stagnant water didn't help, doubtful anything saw 240 deg. GM V8's are tough.

With as goofy as it was acting it's hard to say, I did hear it boiling one time but only briefly, and like you said the gauge pegged then backed off and it only pushed water past the 25lb cap the last time it heated up. I'm not worried about it. On another note per the Optima battery charger my battery is bad too, like we couldn't have guessed that on Saturday as well.

And on a happier note, after doing our prep work for the UA trip the Convertible is good to go, (actually really good) and Willard took my Dad home last night for the first time in a LONG time. I'm hoping we'll have the black '04 crew out of the shop with the SAS complete in the next couple days too. So we're making some headway.

Alright, Its under six weeks to BB and about a month out from when i'm planning to point this rig toward Utah. My list of things to get done has certainly shortened, but I'm no where near finished ( and probably will never be :D ) . It looks like some things are just going to have to wait as I focus on the important parts for this trip. Right now I'm dealing with a rear drive line vibration. I'll be making adjustments to the pinion angle this week and should be able to clear it up. Still need bump stops, then tow hooks front and rear and hopefully the winch mounted. I'm going to continue to drive it everyday so to find any issues that mite pop up. And also twist it up on a couple of trails here locally before pointing it that way. I'm way behind schedule from where i'd like to be!:yikes:

Is anyone else this fare behind?

I'm planning on wheeling all the way from AZ to Moab with the camping trailer I'm building. The plan is to leave AZ on the 26th of this month... This is the current state of the trailer:

Been following that thread. Are you going to use it as the travel thread?

?
Are you asking if I'm going to update that thread with pictures from the trip?
I'll probably put one or two good ones there, but I'll spin up a new thread for the trip.

That's what I was getting at.

Now that the engine and trans have been pretty well proven, I decided to tackle moving the shocks up for 7" of uptravel vs. the 4" I've been dealing with the last few years. Even with the axle forward 5-6" and drivetrain back 5-6", still lots of stuff in the way. It's a little hard to see, but that's the front diff at full bump. Had to trim the motor mounts and even clearance one of the starter bolts (among a bajillion other things) but it has 7" of bump at around stock suspension height!

ORD carries the full sets of kingpins with new bearings, springs, seals, bushings etc. They usually keep them in stock so you can get them right away, they aren't cheap though.

Looking at their stuff, I think maybe all I need are some new bushings. My tires are cambered out at the top and I'm experiencing death wobble (not terrible, but definitely there) and it is getting worse day by day. Also, the steering is "wandery" as in it has no real center and follows the crown of the road badly.

It's certainly much cheaper to throw some bushings at it rather than go full monty with a $114 per side rebuild kit.

I would never replace the actual king pin unless you had something seriously wrong with yours. Just buy some bushings and a new set of springs and you'll probably be fine.
