I have some tow hooks laying around from an 89 S10 Blazer but they're not going to work on my 87 1/2 ton pick up. I wanted to mount some to the frame but there's not much space. So what's everyone using. Can I get some pics of factory tow hooks? Thanks guys

These are factory tow hooks for a K5. I can get pics of them bolted to the frame later on today if you need em

If you would as I am going to be mounting some in a week or so it would make it so much easier. Cause I thought they mounted the other way C instead of L.
Thanks

ive got a winch now, but when i had a stock bumper i just bought some of the 3 bolt generic tow hooks from the local 4 wheel parts. served their purpose well. i also mad some little strap retainers out of some 16 gauge

bolted directly to the bottom of the frame rails. no mods to the frame except drilling for the three 1/2" bolts apiece. the stock bumper had to be notched though.

The stock hooks bend too easy. The spare set I had was difficult to give away...

I use 1 inch steel drilled for shackles and welded to my tube bumper.

sanddawg, that warn box looks in a precarious place... or is it just me?

It looks that way but it is fine. I have aboot 6" clearance where it is. When I move my axle forward I might have issues the only reason it is there is I did not have the cable or time to rewire to get it up in the engine compartment.

The bumpers have holes for D-ring Clevises. I have a 1" dia "Big Orange" in the front and a 7/8" in back.

I can take actual pics with them on the truck when it's daylight

I have the stock tow hooks on my 87 and they work fine for me. I have used them hard on more than one occassion. This summer, I had to hook up just one side (drivers side) to a severely sunk expedition and yank really hard in 4lo about 12-15 times. I broke one tow strap in the process but the tow hook held up. If you look at it colsely its a little tweaked now, but not enought ot hurt it. I cant believe it held up to that abuse....and all of it before that incident. (also held up to dragging the rear end of a K5 around when he lost power steering and both driveshafts)

Harrison, you remember what happened to that S10 I tried yanking up the ledge on Daniel at the Thump? Made the factory towhooks look like hockey sticks, just from a couple tugs! Then one snapped clean off!

bushwacker, i yanked an s-10 blazer once, he hooked the strap to one of those cheesy factory hooks, around the other and back across the first again, and snapped one in half, right at where one of the bolts goes through it...

Those stock s-10 hooks arent the size of the stock k5 ones. I could see ripping one of the s-10 hooks off (even though i didnt see that happen at uwharrie). I yanked James (79stomper) sideways uphill on daniel severl times and had to yank the crap out of the expedition. I also yanked a cherokee so hard it ripped his bumper off.:haha: They still work. When I ever get tube bumbers though, im going with shackles.

EDIT: I just saw that he said he had s-10 tow hooks.:doah: Yeah...those arent what you need. I was talking about stock k5 ones. Anyways...dont put the s-10 ones on.:doah: :doah:
