I been trying to score a 14 bff and a sm465 drive train for my truck and found this truck on craigslist , its a 89 K3500. The guy says its a 4 speed manual with the low 1st. shouldn't this truck have the newer 5 speed manual I thought Chevy went with the 5speed on the newer body style? And would it be a 14bff? He just lives a ways from me and can't just go to check it out. Thanks.

that truck should have a sm465 and a 14bff.

Yep the 465 came in the trucks till 90 I think that truck should have what you seek

14ff rear by the looks as it has full float hub . have to move perches and shock tabs tho.

and 93 was first year nv4500 if i recall.

the later 88-up body style 465 got aluminum top cover and little shorter throw shifter i have read. also the shifter position is set back a few inches from our 73-87 trucks.

and to use the hydrop clutch parts you need 4" of lift min to clear the slave as its on pass side lower were our drive shafts run. and the firewall master is diffrent.

OK great. Thanks for the info everyone. I'll see if I can work something out with him then. Should that truck have the 208 case? And as far as the min of 4" of lift, I think I may just be able to clear that. Lol

208 was a passenger side drop transfer case. When that body style came out and changed to IFS they came with a driver side drop. I am pretty sure a 241 with the 1 tons if my memory serves me right...

Sweet K5 also!

I'm not aware of any of the "newer" style IFS trucks with an NP208 t-case. I would guess an NP241 as stated above, and definitely drivers drop.

Also one other question. If its the 465 then it should still hav the same spine count on tge shaft as the earlier ones right?

10 spline input on clutch and 32 spline out shaft to tcase. if your current tcase is off a th400 or a 465 round pattern than it will work.

but if your current tcase is older fig 8 style adaptor its 10 spline and wont swap over.

"88 and "89 new body style do not have a 10.5" full-floating rear-end. 454 equiped single wheel trucks have a Dana 70-3HD. All other single wheel"s have 9.5" semi-floating 14 bolts.

The Dana 70-3HD uses a different offset pinion. The lowest gear ratio you can get for it is a 4.56. The 4.56 is a special thick ring gear and all ratios requires a totally different locker than all other Dana 70's. I would not want to use it unless I was trying to run a high rearend ratio like 3.08 or 3.55

Since it is a K3500 I am pretty sure it will have a Borg Warner transfer case. NP241 only came in K2500's and smaller.
