I have about a 14 mile round trip daily commute, and rack up about 6,000 miles a year total. The truck gets single digits (don't know, don't care) and the dash of my car tells me it gets 18.1mpg. I don't drive enough for bad gas mileage to be a factor.

This (although our kid came 3 months ago). Keeping expenses down makes a big difference. This is one reason why I typically DD a (cash-paid) 40MPG Saturn. Doesn't earn me any points on here, but it frees up a lot of money that would be flowing into the gas fund if I were to DD one of my trucks (adding car payments would make things even worse). This money is flowing toward buying a new roof for my house, NV4500, front axle upgrade, etc. Basically, it's going toward accomplishing my dreams. And on the days where I feel like driving the truck, I do so, while reminding myself that it's robbing a little bit from my other dreams every time I do so. Earlier this summer, I drove my Suburban to work for one tank's worth of time. On fillup day I was reminded that it costs 3x as much to drive, and I opted to go back to the Saturn for daily use. Kindof a self-correcting pattern.
Do the math on how much your particular vehicle choices cost to drive for a year (vs. other options out there). You may find, like I did, that freeing up the funding for funner things is a worthy compromise (most of the time, anyways
).
Normal Daily is 2006 Grand Prix GXP 5.3 V8. Intake, full exhaust, tune. 120K miles average 20 MPG.

Pretty sharp looking Miata as far as Miatas go.
My '67 Fairlane actually sees the most use in DD duties. (to the tune of 6-8,000 miles a year)
When the Fairlane is broken (which is actually not often, though this summer has been unusually bad for breakages... I did blow the diff up after all) or in the winter, I'll drive either the K5 (for shorter distances):
or my '90 Saab 900 SPG for longer distances.
Of course, as you might be able to tell from the pics, I do enjoy just going on simple drives/offroad trips with all three.

'90 K5 is the DD. 6 mile round trip to work, I can afford it.
That miata is a hot ass car. Unfortunately I've made so many Miata/gay jokes that I can never own one.

Should have bought a Vette. My dad averages 29 in his z06.
The gay jokes don't last very long, it's a good enough car that Car guys are "Taking it back".
I was actually thinking about a Vette, but I decided any C5 or C6 I ended up with in my price range was going to be a beat up POS. I also plan on driving this daily through the winter, so I wanted something a little lighter / better suited for that.

I DD by 89 burb. The cost of buying, insuring, and maintaining another vehicle won't save me anything so I just drive the burb. I plan to keep it and drive it until I die. I probably average 500-600 miles a month...and that's only because I drive to and from work 3 times a day. Filling up a 40 gallon tank hurts, but less than $25 a month for full coverage insurance feels fantastic[emoji51]
why do we need to justify driving a truck to anyone as a DD'er when fuel is a $1.85 a gallon????? 
my 97 F450 is for when I have heavy equipment running and am doing mechanic/service, and my flatbed F350 for general farm hauling, etc.
The crane attachment on that truck must come in handy for lots of stuff.
Heck yeah it is. When I'm running equipment I'm using it a few times a week. Was handy pulling the motor from the K5 too.
