You want to hear a funny story??

Once upon a time, I started getting interested in doing more track events in my 911. Up to that point I'd dabbled in autocrossing and a few drivers ed events, but nothing too serious...and nothing on a real racetrack. After a catastrophic clutch failure at my very first road course event (Thunderhill, N. Cali) and being stuck in 3rd gear all the way home. I realized that there was no feasible way to do track events without trailering my car.

So I set out to buy something to tow with that would be smog exempt and might offer some utility and fun in addition to serving the duties of occasional tow rig. I bought the Blazer with the intention of making it my tow vehicle....but then I realized that I wasn't nearly rich enough to start racing Porsches as a hobby.

Fortunately, I had also started messing around with my new "tow rig" and went to a local event called "Blazer Fest" in Hollister. It turns out that there was a sport called 4-wheeling, and people had a good time climbing rocks and hills and spinning wrenches on their vehicles. I realized that instead of going racing, I could save a lot of money by just building up my Blazer as a hobby.

:haha: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA !!!!!!! :haha:

I don't know what I would have spent racing, but I can assure you that this "Blazer Hobby" has proven to be an all-consuming, money hungry monster in it's own right!!! :eek1: :D

Personally I built mine as a garage decoration. So far its working out pretty well :(

Originally it was built for Dual purpose rig, now it is a dedicated rock basher. I have the ugly all over it to prove it too;)

I voted "All in one" because I want a rock crawler that I can still drive on the road, not a dedicated trail rig. It's not a daily driver, but I drive it to the trail which has been as far as Moab. No matter how far I go building the truck, I still want to be able to drive it on the street if I feel like it. There are some days that I just feel like driving it.

All in 1 :D

Mine is built for general Tennessee trail riding. Kind of a combination of mud, "greasy" rocks, and hills. Mostly, it's built nice and heavy to keep the driveway from flying away. Currently, its sitting out front of my brother's new business, advertising that they do custom 4x4 work. Hopefully, it'll do that job well and I'll get some free tube work, for advertising of course.

I haven't had much time to do any building yet. I am still acumulating pieces for both trucks. My plans are one for show, and one for go. My 85 was getting built for anything. The problem was that I didn't want to play too hard in my DD. Having two really simplifies things.

I'm still accumulating parts, but the plans are to be an all in one compromise, We don't get to much rock stuff in Michigan (lower), but mud, dunes, slop holes are most prevalent. Of course money is a factor too.

You poll doesn't cover mine.

Mine is used to both tow a travel trailer into the mountains and run the trails to from our hunting area.

As I am looking to upgrade the trailer sometime this year, I will be further enhancing the Blazer to deal with additional trailer weight.

If that also gives it better off-road prowess, all the better.:D

'75 K-5 rag-top daily driver..........capable trail rig...........oh, a '73 K-5 for future purdy truck DD.

I built mine to scare the hell out of me, my friends and anyone within 30 feet.

What I've built my Burb for and what it usually does are two different things.:doah: Usually it gets used for holding down the driveway and helping people move. I built it for mild mud and trail riding.:D

i built mine to get dirty in the mud, but i did shave the body for the ladies. emblems, door handles, key holes, side fender blinkers, gone
