For me,I always wanted a Muncie 4 speed M-22 "Rock Crusher" tranny in a 4wd GM truck--Advanced Adapters once had a kit to adapt one to a NP-205,not sure if they still have that available or not...
I like manual trannies, but the SM465 was more suited for a dump truck or school bus, than a street driven 4x4..the no synchro first "creeper" gear is great for off road crawling, but pretty useless in street use,and the wide jumps in ratios between second and third made for poor acceleration...
Now you can swap in an NV4500 fro a later truck, but I have heard they have some "issues" too,not as rugged as the old stuff was..and they are pretty hard to find and costly even used with high mileage..
I was looking thru an old Jegs catalog and saw the Richmond 6 speed trannys, and the Doug-Nash 5 speeds, and thought how cool would that be,to have one of those behind a 6.2 or a gas engine, coupled to a divorced NP-205...It would take some doing, but I bet it wouldn't be that hard to assemble such a driveline...
Anyone else have any ideas for the "ultimate" driveline??..
