When I did away with the roll-up window in my K5, i ended up with a shell window that was bowed out. Didn't know this until I was done and put the shell on the truck...so I had a pretty substantial gap between the window and tailgate edge in the center. This resulted in a substantial coating of dust on everything in the inside of the truck every time I went down a dirt road. A piece of pipe insulation worked for a while, but I decided to try something more permanent...So I got this lip off a newer GM tailgate. It's not quite long enough, but I'll figure something out for the corners. My issue is how to securely bolt this thing onto the tailgate so it doesn't just rip through the sheet metal.
The only way I see is to put a bolt all the way through the gate with a T-nut on the inside. I don't know what is inside the gate up along the lip where I'd be drilling, will I hit anything important? Anyone have any other ideas on how to attach this securely? It actually fits pretty well, I just left it a bit off so you can see the profile and where and how it's going to sit...Would you leave the diamond plate on or take it off? Any advice, suggestions, whatever are welcomed. The only other way i thought of was to rough the gate up, and use Dynaglass to stick the plastic on, but that's kind of more permanent that I really want to be.
