Where did you mount your Cb in your K5? i need some ideas, pics would be great. thanks
Front of console.
In my Burb I put it in the roof center console, oh wait blazers dont have them... /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif. Check my webshots to see mine. I just installed on on the roof of my friend's dodge truck that doesnt have a roof center console, I'll take some pictures later, it was a really clean install.
I my Galxay 33 on the dash at lest for the time being.
It's not the best place but I can see it ok....and so can anybody else.
I don't have OEM seats so I don't have a console, In time I mite get a tuffy then I'll move it down there. I have given some thought to the roof but with a big radio I think it would make it hard to see unless your seat is moved way back.
When I first put my radio in the k5 I had a SS 3900 and could see it just fine. There isn't a whole lot you need to see while talking on it anyway right? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
I now have my 2950 in the same spot on the roof and reading the lcd display is a bit tricky because of the angle but it still works pretty good for me.
Not too many good places to mount a big radio like ours in a K5. Mine is even harder to find places since it's a manual. That's why I just stuck it to the roof out of the way.
I don't have stock seats amnd have no center console so i put a piece of mdf across the area where the center console would be and to that i mounted my cb / external speaker
for now all i have is my little cobra 25 but in the future (once i get off my butt) i'll be puttin my galaxy 33 in, or possibly my cobra 148 (i like havin sideband) dman i should get a dx99 so i can have channels and sideband (even though i can mod my 148 for channels)
heres a link to pics of my install http://phreak480.webhop.net/gallery/blazer/cb_install
I have a smaller CB, and I mounted it with its included bracket directly under the ash tray. I have about 1" clearance for the 4x4 shifter, but the CB is tilted in a way the speaker is easy to hear, so it's a good spot for it.
No pics, sorry. I'll try to get a digital camera sometime and snap one.
i put mine on the front of the center console
Ive got a different cb now and a scanner, but they are in the same place.
this will give you an idea as to where i mounted mine. i did this job on my nephews K5. same place where mine's mounted.
That console isn't factory is it ??? What year, make, modle ??? I like the look of that one.
That looks like an 81 and up console with modified cup holder area. Pretty slick lookin'
I like that console. After I get finished with all the mechanical mods, I'll start on the interior. I'm thinking a console like that, Conversion van bucket seats, a small rear seat like from a S-10, to make room for subwoofer side panel boxs (Wanta run 12s in boxs like the 10s Greg72 has in his K5.)
i just bolted it right to the console between the driver seat and the console. i haven't had any problems with it there.
On the headliner, up out of the way, "case of high water"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
ok i dont have a K5, but i did mount it under the dash just below the radio, fairly easy to reach and see. though i plan on mounting it in a console that will sit on the hump infront of my bench seat.
moutned mine on the dash..
