My speedo cable bit the dust last night, wondering where ya'll buy them from. Found a couple on summit racing for around 10 bucks. These any good? Also, whats the process to change the cable, I've never done one before. How hard is it?

Mine is a Lokar cut to fit cable. It comes with good directions. The summit ones are probably a direct swap out, so remove at speedo and Tcase and replace.

I'm hoping the summit ones will fit right length wise. Do you have to pull the gauge cluster out to disconnect the speedo end of the cable?

On my 74 with my long arm, I can reach and disconnect the speedometer cable without removing the cluster.

It should be just a tab you push in against and pull the cable at the same time.

I can do it with my big 'ol Popeye looking forearms. I bought a cable for my 'burb from Rock Auto. It had a plastic tip. Which sucks IMO.

I also just reach up behind the dash and pull the cable out by "feel". If the old cable will come out of the housing you can just replace the cable. If the old cable has "sproinged" inside the housing, you have to replace the housing too (because the cable wont't come out after it "sproings."

Most of the aluminum transfer case trucks take a 100" cable iirc. Not sure about the older rigs. May be best to pull and measure...

I've not had a problem removing or reinstalling mine with the cluster in place. My rigs are all newer than yours, but I don't think they're much different. And you won't have so many wires to deal with!

Dayum! that's an expensive speedo :eek1::eek:
