Topic kind of handles it. Looking to find out which shorty headers will work that have a bung for the O-2 sensor and will still clear the frame. The ones I have now fight for space with the front drive shaft and shackles.
I have been looking for some shortys myself. I dont know if these have any better clerance but these are what Ive found. Hedmans, JBA and some summits. After I get my wifes criditcard, Ill problly be getting the JBAs. 89sub 350 tbi, 465 31in pizzas /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
I got JBA ceramics. The O2 bung is on the exhuast just under the header flange. They be the [censored]!!!!
You can always have the bung welded on (or do it yourself) especially if you buy uncoated headers and coat them later. Personally, not liking what I hear about coated headers, I'll be doing stainless more than likely, but from what I've found, there is only one company making them, and they are not shorties.
Are the JBA's 50 state legal? I've got to smog mine soon /forums/images/icons/frown.gif and I need something other than the 49 state thorley's I have now /forums/images/icons/mad.gif
i ordered mine from summit...HOK-2460 82-92 camaro/firebird(shorty style) $145...include o2 bung. i had them ceramic coated by a local for $120.
i have access to all the plugs...gotta use an open end wrench, but i don't have to remove the headers to get the plug out, unlike the last set i owned. i had to 'shave' a little off the passenger side framerail to fit initially, but since i replaced motor mounts with poly inserts...plenty of room. there are some shots in my floridak5 album...
You can also buy a reducer from header flange to exhaust pipe that has the bung. made by hedman i think. Jegs has em for $17.
I've got the JBA shorties. The install was a farging bastige. Plug access is ok but the header bolt access sucks ass. They are great looking 50 state legal, but next time I'll do more research.( Read that, Get different Brand or different application). Jim
