Looking for info. on a 4x4 k2500 extended cab. Looking to purchase for a donor rig if there isn't any big surprises associated with them. Im going to be using the drive train in a tube rock buggy. wanting to find out which t case and tranny came in them. It looks like a 700r4 tranny and only because there is a kick down cable on it. Im not sure about the tcase though? Looks like a NP231 but some one said that it was most likely a NP233? Truck runs great and has the paper work and its not in bad shape for $1000.00. :dunno:

Point me to some tech thread or anything? Please...

I think 92 would have a 4L60 trans and a NP241 transfer case. The 4L60 still had the TV cable untill the 4L60E came along in 93 and the cable went away but still used the NP241 transfer case. I think the 231 were in 1500 series trucks?

I had a 1993 GMC K2500 4x4 truck and it had the 4L60 trans in it and it had the TV cable connected to the throttle linkage. Sometime later in production the the 4L60E came along which was computor controlled for the trans. I think 89 or 90 was the last year for the 700r4 in the C/K series trucks. Well, Well... Guess I will figure out what I have when I get it to my shop? LOL :dunno: Either way its mine now so I will let ya know once I have it where I can crawl around it. Thanks for the help, its appreciated!

Okay - here goes:

Half tons and light duty 3/4 tons (the 6 lug versions) had the 700R4 that was renamed the 4L60 until 1992 and some have shown up in 1993. In '93 the 4L60E officially came out but some sources erroneously list it as '92.

8 lug regular 3/4 tons and 1 tons got the 4L80E transmission.
I believe the 6.5L diesel Tahoes, Burbs, and half ton trucks got the 4L80E as well.

The half tons, light duty 3/4 tons, and regular 3/4 tons used the NP241 for the part time normal transfer case.

1 tons got a Borg-Warner transfer case.

So this being this is a 8 lug k2500 1992 it could be a 4L80E? Im guessing the 4l80E also used a TV Cable? Cause this one has one...

Nope. 4L80E was electronic controlled from the get go. Even square bodied '91's had a stand alone computer for their 4L80E's.

Not sure what you have then. Thinking someone has done some swapping.
