Just to clear it up the 475 is an upgraded version of the turbo 400, a 3 speed automatic.

The step up from the 465 would be an nv 4500 which is a 5 speed manual transmission

The NV4500 isn't really a "step up" per se. It has an overdrive, but it isn't quite as strong as the 465.

And as for strength (and longevitity), I bet you will find 10 toasted TH400's for every dead 465.

Well For Mud Bogs i would go with the Th400 with the reverse manual valvebody. IF ur a racer thats the way to go. u could never shift a sm465 as fast as the TH400. I personaly just put a sm465 in my blazer. but i like to run trails and such. Mud bogs = TH400 Trail= Sm465. My 2 cents.
You just really need to decide what u are really going to build the truck for, weekend fun or pro mud racer. Im assuming that u are a weekend fun person, other wise you wouldnt be on here asking which is better, u would already know. i would go with the sm465 and the twin stick np205 and put run to floor e brakes one to each rear brake line. u can then lock one tire and throw the rear in nuetrul and the front in high and spin on a dime. Just my 2 cents.:D

Only if you don't have a locker. ;)

I say th400 all the way. if that thing has a dana 60 front and enough lift to clear 44's then the short 465/205 combo makes the front driveline super short. i'm not saying impossible or anything, but way expensive to make it work right. that's the only reason my truck has a th350, because the 400 is 2 3/4 inches longer, which would make my rear shaft even shorter than it is now. currently both shafts are almost the same length. just something to consider when picking a trans /t-case combo

Funny i took out my th350/208 and replaced it with the 465/205 combo and my front drive shaft is the same length as stock:confused:
my rear drive shaft is out of a long bed pickup so i naturally have to have that shortened.

2 versions of the 465/205 adapter exsist. One is shorter than a 350/205 combo & the other is the same.
