Ugly as hell.

Ditto, You couldn't pay me to drive that 500 miles. No power steering or brakes, no insulation, no A/C, ugly as sin, TOO FREAKIN' OLD! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Who needs insulation and AC. Wuss. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Because I don't like to freeze my balls off in the winter and smell like a sweaty pig when coming over to my GF's house to...you know. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif A vehicle that holds in it's temp fairly well and has A/C is pretty much standard these days. I guess am not hardcore enough to sweat and stink it out anymore when it isn't neccessary. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I enjoy modern, standard, convienceness. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Just so ya know, some girls REALLY dig sweaty balled, hard workin guys with 1950s lifted chevys /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I would run that cab on my truck /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Pull off those huge front fenders and you have a factory narrowed front end

i never once broke a sweat when driving my 49, they make these neat things on them called vents, and they work just like AC, you open them in addition to rolling down the windows and enjoy the breeze. as for freezing, thats simple enough, dont drive it when its cold. mine never left the house if it was under 50*.

Loose the bumpers, put some stock ones on, and it would be cool as heII! Too bad some of here have turned into pansies, and don't like, back to the basics, old iron.

That thing would probably do things, that some of ours, that we have stuck a fortune, into.

That would work but I prefer a vehicle that I can jump into at -10* and have heat and be actually able to go where I need to regardless of temperature. I remember plenty not being able to drive during 95*+ weather and having to pack coats in my blazer because the heat wasn't setup, I had about enough of that. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Flipping the vents on works decent when its 70* outside. I prefer the A/C with the windows up keeping the noise and pollution out and my cool air, music or a quiet conversation with a passenger, inside. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My point is I drove plenty in my blazer without A/C and heat with the winders down with boggers and flowmasters. It made it SOOO much more compfortable in my K5 after I rebuilt the A/C and was able to keep the flowasters and boggers on the outside instead of in my ears and could actually hear my stereo when not cranked.

With my 2001.5 cummins dodge I have been completely spoiled...an love it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Of course not, that is a clean early....what ever year and make it is. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif You will have to excuse my lack of knowledge on anything earlier than '67. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I passed a really cool dually flatbed big fender "rod" truck like that today and he had a sweet paint job, late model mirrors, 16" alcoa dually rims, and tinted windows.
I wouldn't be a bit suprised if both those two trucks have been converted to power brakes and steering by the owners. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

ALL THAT COSTS LOTS OF MONEY!

You could make a very nice daily driven early truck but you aren't going to be able to just "pick up" one for the price you want to pay for a truck. You could buy one already retored with late model system added already but that will be much....much higher than the amount you told me you wanted to spend. You could go buy something a little on the tired side for what you want to spend but I doubt it will be up to any kind of reliability and you will have to dump more cash into it than you think to make it liveable.

If you go with a 70's truck you will already have simple, basic stuff like power steering, power brakes, and a much safer and powerfull braking system. It would almost indefinantly cost much less to make it fairly reliable. Start punching some numbers Jake. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

[/ QUOTE ] /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
So I am pansie for liking power steering and brakes?? /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I conduct a lot of my business over the phone and don't have time to deal with a difficult vehicle to drive when important customers and employees are needing to talk to me.

I guess I am a pansie then for liking modern technology ( is 60's and 70's tech. still considered modern with vehicles?) because I consider my business too important to not have something reliable I can jump in and out of all day long and be easy and compfortable to drive.
Oh, and I love old hot rods....I just think they make bad daily drivers unless tons of cash have been dropped into them to provide 60's and 70's technology like power brakes and steering.

I guess we both missed the point.... I wasn't suggesting this for a daily driver, just a weekend fun toy. I am with you for all of the modern conviences of home, on a daily driver.

Sorry for the misunderstanding...........

I don't know about anybody else, but I would DD that first truck any day of the week. Of course I wouldn't drive it in the winter for other reasons than being cold i.e. I don't want it to rot away in 5 years. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

[/ QUOTE ]My apologies also for the misunderstanding. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Jake (hipinion) and I are friends who talk frequently on the phone and we had a convo about what he needs a 4x4 chevy for. He mentioned occasional usage in town from hauling stuff to the dump to maybe using it for a short period of time to replace the DD while it could be down in the shop. Of course he also wants it for a fun weekend offroad toy. That is why I took the stand point I did. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Go for it if thats what you want. I just am not into spending a lot of hours in an old vehicle that is an "adventure" to drive, to say it nicely. Even our 1971 C30 flatbed dually was a little too primative for me. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
