i've got my 6.5 in place and just mounted up the tranny the other day, but i need to build a crossmember for it. so for mocking it up i have a originall mount and the bracket that attaches it to the original crossmember (92?93? 1ton) sitting on a peice of angle iron between the frame rails but this has the tranny very high up, as it sits there is no T/C on it and it is sticking up 2" threw the floor.
what im asking is how high is too high?
i have no problem putting a 3" body lift in to clear but will this play havoc with my driveline angles?
i can't get any pics right now sorry,

and also when people go "flat belly" how high up does your tranny go? the bottom of the tranny is around 1" higher then ten bottom of my frame.

also just to add: np208, stock bellhousing with external slave. 84 k5. and i haven't measured the angle but the motor seems to be sitting perfectly level
thanks

Mine's not a diesel or an 84, but the tranny sits below the frame rails by about 2". That's about the same as the oil pan and the front shackles too. The 205 transfer case also sits about 2" below the frame. That was as high as I could get it without a body lift.

If you want more clearance, then go higher. The nv4500 is a little longer than most so the extra angle on the front shaft might not be as bad as you think. I wouldn't do anything permanent until you have the transfer case and driveshaft mockups in place to check all that though.
