Been that way forever...![]()
yeaso this guy is a ck5 member?
Unfortunately one person gives the entire sport a bad name. Yes it sucks, yes it probably isn't too bad based on the pictures, but that is exactly the kind of crap the enviro-wackos use against those of us who enjoy this sport. You can bitch about the enviro-wackos, but they aren't going to listen and clearly have more pull in the gov than we do based on the number of trails and areas they get closed down each year.
Besides, it is just plain bad form to blaze a new trail around here. We have literally hundreds of thousands of miles of trails, we don't need anyone getting more of those closed down.

, is still a dick. You are right about the sway of envirowackos, which is why and decent person should support nullification and/or secession.
Anybody who said this guy should have his truck stolen(impounded), should be turned in to the government, or be shot, is still a dick.
The same thing is going on with second amendment rights. One side always gives. The other side never budges. In a decade we wont have any guns or trails left to be taken away. All under the justification that it was because some people abused them.
Doesn't exactly look like the guy is tearing up the trail. I see rocks under his tires. Sounds like some dude was being an asshole, this fellow didn't want anything to do with it so he drove off, and the asshole got back at him by flaming online.
That truck also doesn't look like it would be "leaking oil everywhere." Its cherry, and you can tell the guy cares about it. The OP's entire story is suspect. People need to quit bitching.
People on the linked thread are claiming "he's blazing trails," "he should have his truck impounded," "someone should report him as a drunk driver," and so on. One fella even inferred he should be shot. All this because he drove over some rocks?
I know I know "but they'll close the trails!" So because some assholes want to close trails allegedly because of the not too outrageous behavior in this example, we should bitch at the not too outrageous behavior instead of the assholes?
.
) clarify what the rules are in the area where the pictures of Scotty's truck were taken? And thatk30guy, why does your username say banned?
Cuz I'm special!Been that way forever...![]()

Then someone says, just because it's mark as open doesn't mean you should just drive anywhere?

If the issue is that of potentially providing the anti's with ammo, then the OP on the other board and and Alf here aren't exactly helping. Either handle it on the trail, call someone in authority (BLM, although not real practical in Moab), or have a better story/evidence if you're gonna take it to the Web.Any picture that shows a truck that's off the trail - regardless of the context, be it entirely legal, or not, - is potential ammunition for those groups that want to eliminate mechanized travel in the backcountry.

A self-policing community is a good thing to some extent, but when some 19YO trail cop gets offended because he felt ignored and posts up slamming another 4x'er with pictures that aren't verifiably incriminating, and then cross-forum posts start cropping up regarding the same incident, what kind of ammo does that give the greenies? Greenpeace doesn't follow us around on the trails in Moab taking pictures, and no one would have ever seen them in the first place if that guy hadn't posted. Now all they have to do is Google to come up with another story that may be bad or may be a case of hurt ego or bad communication.
I met the guy in question briefly at BB, so I don't have any real connection, but I did look the truck over very closely and if it leaked a drop of any fluid I'd be VERY surprised. Also, if smoking tires on rocks constitutes tearing up the trail, then almost everyone at Moab is guilty.
The trail isn't marked as far as I know, lots of tire tracks one way not to many another if you look at the picture you can see its a somewhere lots of people have driven before.

Didn't someone say in the other forum that this part of the park is open to everything and not just limited to marked trails?
Then someone says, just because it's mark as open doesn't mean you should just drive anywhere?
If I were somewhere mark as open and some guy came up giving me lip about not driving in the area I'd listen to what he had to say and then probably just drive away as well.
The other side of this, someone then comes to the forums and eCrys about him not listening to him trying to trash talk the guy what was doing nothing wrong.
IF he is in an area mark as no use then just report it to whoever owns the land.
This area is not open area although it is close to 5 mile pass recreational area that is.
It is BLM land ,making it public land, so I guess I own it as well as every other Utahn.
