Working on a 71 Jimmy....

Little bit more done this weekend.

Stripped out all the dash crap (all needs redone) and sanded it down, primer'd, Bed liner'd everything. Started a CB install in the dash. PO already cut the hole so might as well.

Got my 2wd steering box installed as well as a vib reducing Borgeson steering u-joint.

Started aquiring parts for my doubler, and the crossover is ready to install now.

Also I'm almost done with my tube doors...will have pics on those after I get them installed.

How does it look on 39.5x18 boggers? Did a test fit with a used pair this evening.

Comparison pic with the current half bald 36x14.50's

Too big? Go Bigger?

Redneck Engineering or Epiphany?

Stock roll bar was blocking my swapped in Silverado buckets from reclining. Well since I was doing a family cage eventually, now is my chance to cut it in half and weld in a extension to make it wider, and fix the seat problem. Had a good couple inches it could grow before contacting the bed.

After I cut it in half and stripped the padding I started to notice it was eerily similar to the shape I was planning on for my tube doors. Bolt on some slam latches and strikers and whalla.

Test fit (sorry for crap cell pics)...think I found new doors for free, and the cage can start from scratch with frame mounts later

Slowly but surely...

Pulled the seats and transfer case pan, dropped the np205,
painted under the seats a little.

Next few weeks will be a doubler assembly and insertion

Fun with the welder.

Did the rear recovery points. Made sure they are not going to come off unless it rips the truck in half. They attach with 3/8" x4 x4 steel angle bar to the top and side of the frame on both sides through the hole in the bumber. Braced them horizontally and vertically. Clevis is rated for about 5x the weight of the truck each. Should be overkill the way I like

Cut up a new steering shaft and installed it to the Borgeson joint. Re-used the pinned slip shaft for safety

The tube door are swinging on the hinges and painted.
still working on the latch, picked up some heavy duty slam latches to install and striker plates.

Doors came out better than expected and made good use of the old roll bar.

Its a 2wd box from the same year. Indexed side to side rather than front to back. its a requirement for the crossover steering which i'm yet to install. Probably next weekend on that.

Appreciate that TFSIDI....:pimp:

I feel kinda stupid but what is "4 7/8" ASA" ? :dunno:

I guess im falling behind on the lingo

No worries King. The silver colored striker attached to the door jamb looks to be a 4 7/8" ASA strike plate. The picture could have been deceiving me...

I tried to copy a picture but, I can't post URLs (whatever that means) until I have 15 posts.

On another note: I like the retrofitted seats and had considered doing the same thing. Any words of wisdom or caution would be appreciated.

Keep up the good work!!
