I broke another axle shaft!
I called Summit & they told me Superior Axle shafts have a 5 year warranty and the replacement one is on the way.

Well, it came in today and it's not the same as the other one! :angry1:

Pics:

JIMMY 152.jpg 1st of all Where do I put my kool sticker?

JIMMY 153.jpg 2nd These flanges are machined different!

JIMMY 154.jpg C- This shaft is cut different too.

So I did a little research on the inter web before I called Customer service.

Check this out -These are the same part numbers PA5384

- Why do Summit Racing's "Superior Axle" Shafts differ from Superior Axle & Gears axle shafts?

- Anyone ? :dunno:

Resolution- Superior Axle & Gear is sending me the correct part at Summit Racing's expense.

Final score

Me- 2

Summit- 0

I got my axles from Randys Pinion , they were STRANGE Axles..I dont think id buy anything else. Glad summit took care of you.

sure it did! now he has a place for his "kool sticker" :pimp:
:sign17:
Sure It would work fine but it doesn't match the other side. The shaft from the junkyard works fine too but I don't want to leave it in there. I already have 2 spare axle shafts I don't need another.

The thing is- I don't understand why the product is not exactly the same. It the same name brand , the same part number but it looks different.

a lot of gear/axle stuff just ends up being reboxed other brands..

Way to solve a problem that doesn't exist while bashing Summit for sending you an extra part you didn't need just because you complained about it! :thumb:

If it warrantied and it broke why not get it replaced under warranty? Yeah it would bug me too if it werent the same. If summit knew it wasnt an issue they wouldnt have been trying to work so hard to replace it.

Oh, I agree, he should of gotten the replacement under warranty, and he did, well deserved.

But after getting the replacement, and it looking slightly different (actually better in my opinion), but still functions exactly as it should (while being buried behind a wheel and inside a housing tube) has to complain to get a different one just so they look the same seems like a waste of time and money to me.

Sorry if I was a little harsh.

On a side note, it seems like he is ready for 1 tons if he keeps breaking those! :waytogo:

My question is what's the difference? The newer one more likely to break somehow?

If I asked for a warranty replacement and got absolute **** I'd be more than pissed. Didn't fit I'd be the same way. The post doesn't really explain and the picture just shows a slightly different shaped part.

I dunno, I don't know a lot about machining.

One looked smaller then the other. The smaller one would be more likely to break wouldnt it? So why wouldnt someone want a stronger part to match what the replacement was? I would. If they updated the axle shafts then yeah they should give him the updated parts in a pair i would believe. I would imagine its like brake parts you just dont replace just one side.

Yeah, the old one looked smaller, so the new one looks even better to me. Although I think it may just be an illusion because of the more gradual taper. And no, they aren't like brake parts. If you have two axles and you brake one, you dont need to replace them both unless you are getting a whole new set of aftermarket shafts or something.

The new one was advertised as being 35% stronger than the stock replacement. If the part is covered under warranty they should have sent me the exact same part, not some generic looking shaft in a Superior box.

I don't mind you being harsh bring it, I can take it. :flipoff3:

There is a difference in the finished look too on the outside of the flange between the lug nuts.

See the pic:JIMMY 086.jpg
I don't want this on one side and the other one to be different looking.

The ranting part is more about the inconvenience that I have to wait to fix my rig. I am a also ticked off that they tried to do the hillbilly swap and send me a generic part to replace a specific name brand product.
I posted this thread to give the brothers a heads up about it. Maybe someone out there learned something from this.
My intent is not to bash Summit I am still a satisfied customer, and they resolved the issue without conflict. :waytogo:

I would say this isn't even one to really look at Summit on... it is a warranty, but I think this is more on Superior's end with what they are boxing up, etc, and supplying Summit with...
