The shop I work in hasn't had the snap-on guy since late august or or early september. One guy in the shop owes them money, he pays by mail every month.

So last wednesday this woman comes in and says shes from snap-on and wants to talk to everyone who owes them money. What she got was 8 guys with broken tools wanting warranty. She had a blank receipt pad that didn't even have snappys name on it.

The best part is that she's not from minneapolis, I work in a suburb of there. She came up from Iowa to do this. She acted like such a bitch that the shop foreman was crosseyed at her. That took a lot of work because he's a huge snap-on guy.

I asked why the sort of new guy won't come to our shop, he's in the area like 5 minutes away and won't come over to our area. Within 6 blocks of where I work are 7 truck shops all working at least 2 shifts and a couple doing 3 shifts. Her response was, "He's not under any obligation to come here." He doesn't go to any of the others either:rolleyes:

stop making payments, then i bet he shows up!!LOL as long as guys are buying stuff from the driver or making payments the truck always shows up...

I am thinking that I would not have paid her. I probably would ask her for a legit phone number and address where I could send my payment. From the sound of the story, I would not have any faith that I was not getting scammed.

That's what I used to think, but I've since realized that a large percentage of tool salesmen are flakes. The shop where I worked last couldn't keep a Snap-on or Mac guy coming in either. A couple of them stopped showing up with guys owing on accounts with his truck, not with Snap-on corp. That's crazy to not even show up to collect payments.:doah: The last one kept showing up, but his account with SO is so bad he can't hardly get tools. He was saying stuff was backordered or discontinued, then when a corp rep came by we got all our warranty stuff within a week. I'm at a different shop and now I work nights, and the SO guy only comes in on day shift. I just can't win.

Dang , Thats horrible I've never had bad experience with Snap-on (unless you consider spending 3/4's of my paycheck)

the tool guys have a contract on a specific area. and if you are not in that area you are out of luck.

we had a sone of a ____ mac guy years ago. he quit showing up and guy had 500 on mac credit and mac kept calling him. finaly thay called work and he said fu#$ you and give me a tol guy i can trust and show up or give me a price to pay off and leave me alone. 200 bucks later he was over and done with mac tools.

1 week later snap on pulled in and all his mac was traded in and now snap on no problems.

Here is what you do. Call the local service center or the main snap on number. Tell them your location and that you are getting bad service from your local representitive/dealer.

HE WILL SHOW UP THE NEXT DAY I BET YA

My guy shows up every week like he is supposed to now whether I buy anything or not. If he slacks off I will call again.

We tried that repeatedly and got stories of new reps and BS. Then a new guy would show up for a while before the same old crap would start all over again. We would even see our rep up the street sometimes at lunch, but he still wouldn't come to our shop.:doah: I should just count my blessings that I get full heavy mechanic pay (plus night differential and paid lunch break) for doing PMs all night. Now I don't need specialty tools since the day shift does 90% of the repairs.:D

I know several friends who own auto repair shops and are in real good with both the Mac and Snap-on guys and if the shop is small and no one is buying stuff every week they just won't come around faithfully. However, if techs are buying stuff all the time they will come by on a regular basis (once a week).

In my area Mac guys are worthless. They show up every couple weeks, roam around finding new places to go and later abandon, it is crazy. They won't break sets to warranty stuff, they HAVE to order it. So it takes weeks sometimes to get stuff. They all take the broken stuff before they replace it, which when they never come back, you don't have stuff to prove it is broken and you don't get replacements!

I have a few Snap-On guys that are pretty spotty as well, but not as bad as Mac.

Calling corporate will likely only get you so far. Tool distributors are given a list of stops when they start their route. They are allowed to branch out from there, but that is their choice. Snap-On is also notorious for dividing routes. If a guy branches out to a bunch of stops, then Snap-On will come through and say "well they weren't on your list and there is enough space here for another person, so here is Bob he is taking over those stops!".

I am a heavily tattooed 23 year old Matco distributor, who had a mohawk until last week. I know my tools, and if I don't know something I put some effort into it to figure out what a guy needs and how I can get it for him. I show up to every stop every week, as long as I don't run out of time. Somedays it takes me a long time at some stops and 5 oclock rolls around quick. I would work later, but when you show up at 5 and the doors are locked, there isn't a lot I can do about it. I have earned respect and loyal customers because I treat them fair and number one, I show up as much as I possibly can.

Number one rule of being a tool guy, SHOW UP. How some guys don't understand that, I will never know.

In defense of some other guys, there are not enough hours in the week. Especially if you get those shops that want you there at noon only, or between 3 and 4 on Tuesdays and no other time. It isn't easy to manage your time when you are a tool guy. I still haven't figured it out. I am switching up my route this coming week and rearranging stops because I just don't have enough time in the day. And I have been doing this for over a year and a half.

Being a tool guy is no different than selling construction equipment (what I do) and if you don't get yourself in front of your customers then they will go with the guy who takes the time to show up and know his chit. Sounds like the SO guy is just a bad sales rep. You reap what you sow as a sales guy and maybe he is just content with his current paycheck. I don't understand that thought process but maybe he is just happy. Also, if he has customers that owe a bunch of money and is not getting paid by the consumer why would he go back and try to sell tools to guys who can't pay thier bills. If bills are being paid regularly then he is probably just a chitty, content rep who doesn't need to make any more money than he already is. So why give him more of your business? My $.02.

Theres a Snap-On guy around me and thats it. Used to be a Mac Dealer...he folded up. Havnt ever seen a Matco truck around here. The Five Star guy shows up randomly 6 months to a year between stops usually. But being that Im not a tech, nor do I work at a shop he doesnt stop where I work. But by got John is there every Monday between 1030 and 1130.

Great guy, excellent warranty service and has just about everything on the truck you could ever need. If he doesnt have something he'll break a set in a second for ya. Would be nice if he would quit trying to sell me a toolbox every week though, haha.

Yeah show up is the name of the game for me too. I'm to the point I don't really care about price, either I will pay that number or I won't its that simple. But service is key. The last Matco guy I had was cool, this one not so much. He's way more like a used car salesman and he pretty much has nothing on the truck.:dunno:

And that same Snappy lady was back today again. But one of my co-workers is pissed because she lost a bunch of warranty stuff of his. Told her he called and she said no you didn't. So he showed her his phone with the call log...still more denials. Glad it wasn't my stuff
