‘72 Blazer at work {Project Hope}

Why does my head hurt looking at the front frame horns and spring hanger? Like that S is photochopped. Is the reverse frame all for the PTO?

I’m about to do that dash swap to put in the tach. Keep us posted on how that goes. Very interested if my limited skill set will get the job done.

The dash swap was simple.

On the back of the tach gauge I made 2 little 90* connectors and bolted them to the posts so the harness connector can plug into it.

That way later on it can easily be unplugged without having to loosening the nuts on the gauge and risk scratching the lenses.

My leg still hurts from walking into that fat pig.

It’s a section of a bigger frame that’s welded into the Blazer frame.

Today she got under dash lights & door switches, and I hooked up the tach wire to dizzy.

Also I got started on the filler neck solution.

More to come about that...

The Blazer has been on hold for a while.

The fuel tank is in, new radiator, shroud, fan & clutch, water pump, pulleys & belts.

I also pulled the HVAC box and replaced the heater core.
It was full of rats nest so it took a lot of cleaning. new ducts, switches & relays on the way.

She’s also getting a 14BFF & a 60 built.

The tanks sold as Blazer / Jimmy / Suburban are actually Suburban gas tanks. Which the only difference is the neck. Common practice is to remove the old fuel filler neck from a Blazer / Jimmy tank to install on the new tank. Looks like your off to a good start on it. We've done several in past ourselves by unbolting neck, filling with water after rinsing heavily, then unsoldering neck from tank with brazing torch tip. Never ever seen a whiff of a flame while doing this.

We took a piece of 1 3/8” bent tube and cut it to fit
And bead rolled the ends.

I also cut the neck of the filler tube shorter and rolled it too.

Did a little metal magic on the frame rail for more clearance.

I used filler neck hose & a few hose clamps to put it all together.

I feel good about it. I’m putting a lot of love into the build.

Gotta love that body flex! Nothing like seeing the bottom of the passenger door sticking out 2" on a front lift, and pulled in 1" on a back lift.

Any plans for a cage to stiffen things up?

No plans for a cage Ashman. I removed the old unsafe one.
The Blazer still needs floor & rocker panels before any cage work but the boss said Stop.

I’ve been working on the hardtop drilling out seized broken bolts, tapping holes, new weather seals on the way, and a little glass work.

I was going to comment on this

Oh, that's a fun job too. :(
Found an alternative to drilling out seized broken bolts. Fabricate a t-tool out of rebar and weld it to the top of the (saturated with rust buster) broken bolt. Don’t worry, the flames subside, eventually. Torque the thing out and you are back to a clean mount.

We started working on the old girl again.
Front clip going in.

The original frame horn were chopped off for the PTO winch.

I cut some cardboard to match the frame to the bumper.
