@ZooMad75, what are you and Larry running for engine mounts? I have Kert’s DIY poly on my Jimmy, but didn’t know if there was a noticeable difference running a stock style instead of poly. I’ve heard you get more engine vibrations from the poly mount, but I don’t have anything to compare that to on my Jimmy. I don’t mind feeling the vibrations of the engine as I feel like you have a better idea of how it’s running.
Larry and I are using energy suspension poly mounts for the stock clamshells. No issues with vibration and zero issues wiping them out with the torque of the 8.1’s or use with a manual transmission.

I wouldn’t do an 8.1 without them. Larry went through a rash of stock rubber mounts trying to find a high quality unit and every one he tried tore in half or collapsed under the mass of the 8.1 letting it rest on the ORD tubular engine crossmember. He went poly and never had another failure.

Good to know

So stock poly BB mounts?

I won’t run poly clamshells with a big block. They tear, been through it on both trucks.

Rubber clamshells sure. I’m still running the same poly clamshells from my first 8.1. A full tilt trail rig probably won’t survive even with poly ones but for a street/mild trail rig they will hold up fine.

Your results may vary, but even on the stuff in Moab I was pulling wheelies on the mounts held. I know this my fan shroud would not be in one piece had I broke one.

What are you using ?

DIY4X and ORD

They didn’t last on my street truck. Might be the way I drive it though, I like to hear the BBC sing.

The second opportunity is with this truck.

C10’s in the Park is an event I took the ‘78 K5 to back in 2023 and 2024.

I found out about the event from my buddy in Manhattan KS that runs Flint Hills Classics.

Well this year one of his trucks if featured on the shirt they are selling this year. Because of that, they offered sponsor a booth for him and his company.

So this is where I come in. BJ(Flint Hills Classic) asked me and another friend of mine to put our trucks in front of his booth this year for the event!

So the plan for this one has a lot more time as the event is Sept. 18th and 19th.

That plan is to finish the floor patches and get some sound deadening down and carpet. The rest of the interior probably won’t get much attention at this time. Also refinishing the top would be done around the same time.

But, most likely before that the 8.1 swap will commence.

So then the question presents itself, do I drive it down or trailer it there. Time will tell.
