I have a friend that has a 01 sub he has some scratching noises coming from his rear diff i pulled the cover off to find the driver carrier bearing was gone the shim was split in half. the quistion i have is if i change the carrier bearings and axle bearing and clean the **** out of it will it be good to go.the rear end made no growling noises at all just scratching noises,he thought it was his breaks lol

If you are already that far into it, you might as well replace all the bearings, and inspect the carrier and gears.

With all that metal running through the oil the pinon bearings are going to be trashed as well. Make sure to replace those and the crush sleeve.

I'm a little worried about the housing where that carrier bearing race spun on it. Make sure to "knurle" the spot where the carrier bearing sits with a center punch and maybe put some green loctite aound the race on final assembly to help keep it from spinning again.

thanks for the info i will c tomorrow if the axle case is messed up or not and that green loctite is the strongest they make i plan on cleaning it good but i dont think my buddy wants to spent the money to repace all the bearings.i am going to change the carrier bearings axle bearings axle seals and of course the fluid.

Not the race but the housing and the cap. If you use a center punch and a small hammer it will raise the metal and help make up for the metal that was lost when the race spun. The divots will help the loctite glue the race in.

I hope he's planning on selling this soon because the pinion bearings aren't going to last.

that make sence thanks dude i just rebuilt my trucks 12 bolt and now i want a 14bff is that a bit..
