I would say that this new of an axle is better primarily because it has disk brakes. That in itself makes it worth at least 500.00 in the junkyards around here, (more likely 1000.00, the JY owners up here are crazy).
I guess my biggest question is are you SURE it's a FF Corp. 14 bolt? When they came out with the D-Max GM had AAM (American Axle Manufacturing) come up with a Super Heavy Duty rear axle to hold up to the torque that those diesels are capable of. It has a 11.5" ring gear

& is generally HUGE!! I think they are called a 14-bolt as well, but they are MUCH bigger, believe it or not.
New 14 bolt 11.5" ring gear
Sorry for the crappy picture. I can't really find a good one of the diff cover itself.
I think this is what Mag Hytec's version looks like - It is EBAY though, so it could be wrong.

Old Style 14-Bolt 10.5" ring gear -
As you can see the old style has 14 bolts on the diff cover, but the new style only has 12. The reason it's called a 14-bolt still is because there are 14 bolt's holding the ring gear to the carrier, (same as the old style).
Bottom line - If you are SURE that it is the old style 14 bolt from a '02 GM then I would offer at least 500.00 based on the brakes & being able to adapt the E-brake. If it's
not the old style, I wouldn't consider it because of scarcity of gearing & traction aid options. I think the gears available only go up to 4.56 & there are virtually no lockers or limited slips available yet.
Just my opinion though. Take it or leave it.
