Any one know what a `02 14 bolt full float with factory locker not sure which one, 4:10 gears, discs 7,000 miles is worth? Thanks

Apology

Sorry guys, not trying to sell. I'm looking at one I want to buy. where should I post this?

It's newer, that's about the only reason I can think of that it would be worth more than any other 14FF. You (supposedly :)) know the mileage, so whatever that is worth to you.

Those axles can probably last 500,000+ miles, so unless they are really abused or neglected, don't think mileage or age has much to do with it.

There were a few changes to them over the years (from what I've read in other posts) something about how the axle is pulled, as well as the ribbing added to the center section, maybe something about the pinion bearings? Anyways, I don't know anything that would really make that axle worth more than one that was built in 1974.

I just remember last time that someone asked whether a new or old 14 bolt was better, I got beat up for saying that the newer is potentially better based on guessing mileage. :)

I would say that this new of an axle is better primarily because it has disk brakes. That in itself makes it worth at least 500.00 in the junkyards around here, (more likely 1000.00, the JY owners up here are crazy).

I guess my biggest question is are you SURE it's a FF Corp. 14 bolt? When they came out with the D-Max GM had AAM (American Axle Manufacturing) come up with a Super Heavy Duty rear axle to hold up to the torque that those diesels are capable of. It has a 11.5" ring gear :eek1: & is generally HUGE!! I think they are called a 14-bolt as well, but they are MUCH bigger, believe it or not.

Sorry for the crappy picture. I can't really find a good one of the diff cover itself.

I think this is what Mag Hytec's version looks like - It is EBAY though, so it could be wrong.

Old Style 14-Bolt 10.5" ring gear -

As you can see the old style has 14 bolts on the diff cover, but the new style only has 12. The reason it's called a 14-bolt still is because there are 14 bolt's holding the ring gear to the carrier, (same as the old style).

Bottom line - If you are SURE that it is the old style 14 bolt from a '02 GM then I would offer at least 500.00 based on the brakes & being able to adapt the E-brake. If it's not the old style, I wouldn't consider it because of scarcity of gearing & traction aid options. I think the gears available only go up to 4.56 & there are virtually no lockers or limited slips available yet.

Just my opinion though. Take it or leave it.

Buddy

I have a '01 HD with the 14bff. I like it because of the disc brakes. Also, it has a drain plug in the bottom that makes changing fluid a breeze. From what I can tell, the 10.5" 14bff has the fill plug in the center section on the passenger side and the 11.5" AAM has the fill plug on the diff cover.

I also have a '85 14ff and can see a LOT more ribbing on the '01 version.
I think it would be worth the $500 for ease of brake work and ease of fluid change.

Thanks guys, I'm sure it's a 10.5 ring gear 14 bolt ff because it doen't have a dampener on the pinion shaft, and looks about the same as the '80 14bff I have now. If it has a factory locker is that a detroit tru-trac?

I don't know if 02 they had other options but if it's a locker, I believe it should be the Gov Loc.
If it's a limited slip then it would be the auburn.
I don't think they offered the true trac as an option, but then I could be wrong. :D
