I have the original build sheet for the engine that was in my K5...it's a 454BBC btw. I verified the casting number on the heads to be 353049. However, the build sheet specs list the head volume at 117cc. Is that possible? mortec.com says the 049s are 122cc. Looking for input from the motor gods.

Sorry but you have some incorrect info somewhere because a BBC was NEVER offered in a K5.

I have seen combustion chamber CC's vary too much to rely on info from any source other than CC'ing the chambers yourself.

So, I shoulda been more clear...one of the POs stuffed a BBC into the K5.

I'm about to start tearing down the motor to rebuild it. The goal is to achieve numbers similar to the 496 you built for Greg.

Ok, i think i understand you now. Like i said earlier, the only way to know 100% for sure what the combustion chamber CC's are is to measure them yourself. Keep in mind that changing the valves to larger valves will change the CC's and so will resurfacing of the heads. When i built Gregs engine i wanted to keep the compression as close to 9.3:1 as possible and because a piston wasn't available i had to surface the heads to achieve the CR i was looking for.

Assuming there aren't any issues with the 049s (no cracks, etc.), are there any pros or cons in comparing them to 781s?
