Sounds like a good deal for $150.What are your opinions?Purchase includes block and rotating assembly only.Cross hatching still visible in the cylinders.

This is my first engine build.I've been intimidated by it for to long and have decided to jump into it just like every other aspect of my truck and friends trucks.I admit to being completely clueless about it.That's why I'm enlisting the help of the pros on the board.

Sounds like I'll be needing a cam/lifter kit, timing chain, heads(off my current engine)as well as the other accessories. The truck is used mostly as a work horse and occasionally drift busting and mud holes that I happen across.Economy isn't to high on the list of priorities, but would like to see at least 12mpg with sensible driving.

What should I be looking at for a cam? Will my stock heads work or will I be wasting my time w/o some form of headwork? $500 max. budget on this so no aftermarket heads or anything like that right now.Should I use my performer intake or the stock one?How does a .060 350 compare to a 400 as far as tq/hp?

What can I do with my OEM dist.for upgrades? Thanks in advance.I'll update as I get more info.

I think I'd stay stay away from a .060 over small block. Way too many stock bore motors out there to mess with a potential overheater.

X2

.060 is about as far a small block can take. At .040 the walls start to get thin, and .060 is no better. You'd be better off spending your money on a motor that is stock bore or .030 over (but stock is prefered).

A .060 350 won't be much differnt than a 350 (or 355 {.030 over 350} for that matter), compared to a 400.

Edit: There was a post a few days back about doing a budget rebuild on a small block. I don't know how far it went. But I posted a link to Northern Auto Parts, great place to buy rebuild kits.

Your post isn't too clear. Are you looking at buying a .060 over bore block?
If so pass on it and dont look back. As everyone else said. That is too much espically for a heavy truck.
If you are looking for a workhorse just find a good rebuildable 350. Do the minimun bore it needs to clean/straighten up the cylinders. Mild torque cam. use Your manifold and a good set of headers.
Your budget is 500? You are not going to get much more than a very very basic rebuild for 500. You would be better off finding a good running 350 to drop in your truck for 350-500 than going cheapo on a rebuild.
