I bouyht an 07 tahoe a while back and today ( for the second time ive witnessed it) my wife put it in reverse. Hits the gas and goes nowhere, tahoe revvs but acts like neutral or park. Put it in park then back in reverse it takes off. The shifter is definately in reverse each time. Thoughts?
Other than that the transmission acts fine.

Sounds like a sticky solenoid. I have seen a new chevy do this, once. It was in 2008. Truck had maybe 50 miles on it. He took it to the dealer, they couldnt replicate the problem, and its never done it again.

I know its stupid, but fluid level is good, correct?

I would check linkage and fluid level. Linkage more than fluid, since low fluid should show up other stuff.

A loose linkage adjustment, or one that is just barely right might cause that.

If it happens again, try easing the shifter slightly farther down towards neutral to see if it goes in gear.

If it's like our '05, there isn't any linkage on these anymore, it's all electronic. There is a big electronic plug on the side that plugs into a control module that changes the gears now. :-/

This trans does not use electronics to control reverse, you could unplug the harness completly and still have reverse so that is not an issue. I would check the shifter cable to be sure it is secure in the bracket, if so disconnect it from the external shift lever and be sure that feels tight when you move it, it should have no slack. If it feels a little sloppy the nut that is on the inside may have loosened up. The fact that reverse is restored by moving the shifter seems to indicate some kind of linkage issues. If this is a 4x4 it could also have a broken output snap ring pulling the transfer case out of range in certain conditions.

come to think about yes, my applogies, it doesn't use the old fashioned linkage with steel rods and such, but does use a cable. That cable, if I remember right does attach to a lever on that electronic module unit though.

Try shifting it right into drive first thing, see if it acts up.

This is true. With no solenoids engaged, you can get N, 2nd and R (2nd with D,3,2 or 1 selected). It just depends on the position of the manual valve, which is controlled by the cable. But the reverse clutch must engage, so there could be a leak there or a sticking valve. But definately check the linkage first.

Do you know if it has logged codes yet?

I say weak pump.
4th will be out soon

Tell here to start driving around in 3rd

hahahahaha you have baaaad taste about 4L60e! :haha: at least they're cheap!:whistle:/hijack

Still have some sort of powertrain warranty? start raising hell now. that way if it does go out, you have documented proof you were having issues before.

The 4L60e defaults to 3rd, the 4L80e defaults to second. I just did a TON of research when my 4L80 was doing crazy stuff.
