08 silverado 7 pin, constant 12v problem

My buddy has an 08 Silverado 1500. It has the factory 7pin trailer connector. He does not have the trailer brake controls(?) package. The truck is brand new and there is no corrosion on the trailer connection.

One of the pins is supposed to be constant 12v, there is no power going to it, I checked it with a test light.

The owners manual says "trucks without the trailer brake control package will NOT have the wire hooked up to the fuse box, but the wire will terminate somewhere below the fuse box. if you want power to the wire, you have to bring the truck back to the dealer so they can connect it."

So how do we locate the wire and connect it to the proper fuse?

And what were they thinking with this one, whats the idea behind it?

Duh!! They want you to pay them to hook it up.Most of the time, the circuit is connected but has no fuse in the slot. Otherwise, the connector that goes into the slot in the fuse box is gonna be taped back right under the box. Yes, they're punishing you for being a cheapskate.

On my '07 Tahoe, the 12 volt wire to the trailer and the power supply for the brake control was taped to the harness near the fuse box on the drivers side inner fender. I think the 12 volt wire was taped to a harness below and behind the box, and the brake controller wire was taped to a harness above or beside the box.

Oh and you will need the metric nuts for the studs.

take the cover off the fuse box and then remove the entire plastic casing around it. the wires are under there. the fuse you need should be there also. it could be worse, the older trucks didn't have the wires at all. you had to buy an additional harness.

You do not need to take the entire plastic case off.

The wire is bunched up & LABELED under the brake booster.

You will need the metric nut for the stud.
You may or may not need to install the fuse.

Thanks for the help guys, I havent seen my friend with the silverado in weeks, I'm going to get a hold of him today and see how he made out with that wire. I'm guessing he hasnt done anything with it yet.
