So I talked to SMI (Sean Murphy Induction) regarding the custom tuning job they are about to do on my old Edelbrock Q jet and we got to talking about fuel pressure, fuel lines ect. He is claiming that for my new 500+ hp motor I may need to get 1/2" AN fuel lines including the pickup line in my tank all the way to my carb. As well he recommends a fuel pressure regulator to keep my pressure at about 5 psi.

Just wondering what the consensus is on this? If so what is the best way to go about doing this. Should I piggy back larger hose to my existing stock steel lines? Never been inside one of these tanks so not sure what's involved in replacing the pickup line.

Finally if all of this needs to happen I would assume I would need a higher volume Mechanical fuel pump. Right now just running stock.

Would love some recommendations for parts. Including what style and brand of fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel regulator and gauge, and necessary fittings.

Oh and this is regarding my big block K30 long bed pickup.

Thanks

Maybe his suggestion is due to the length of the truck but Ive seen quite a few 600+ horse non raced cars at work still running 3/8ths or 7/16ths that dont run out of fuel.

One of them is a 64 vette with a 427, brodix heads, a 6-71 sticking out of the hood and duel double pumpers.

Still running 3/8" fuel line on my blazer. It's well beyond 500 horse. That being said, we haven't ever had any sustained high rpm blasts.

second this..... I ran my blown BBC with 2 - 750 double pumpers with no problem on 3/8 line.....

no way a single quadrajet is going to pass that much fuel.....

Heck.... with 1/2 inch hose at 20 ft with gasoline moving @ 1 GPM (which I doubt you would be doing with a Q-jet) there is only 0.15 psi loss .....

Well that confirms my own opinion as well. I was in doubt when he was telling me this but I just wanted to make sure.

If I do have some issues I would think just upgrading to a high volume fuel pump would be the first place to start.

I think he is thinking I am going to be holding it wide open for 2 miles or something.....
