As some of you know I am on the hunt for my unicorn, a 3/4 ton squarebody Suburban 4x4 in excellent condition, and just had one slip away. As I look, I find a few nice 1/2 tons, and other than axles are there any other big differences? I've had squares my whole life and I know on the pickups there are some frame differences, but I don't know about the burbs.

1960s and 70s sales brochures used to list the frame thickness as being different between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton. I think it was made the same by the 1980s but I have never been able to tell the difference between the two by looking at them alone.

Transmissions, rear springs, and rear axles are the primary differences you notice.

There is another thread that had a bunch of different measurements from multiple members. Can’t find it though since it’s so old and the thread is not searchable since the thread naming convention changed many years ago.
