After looking at the new to me 78 suburban closely today I noticed most of the body bushings are shot. I am definitely going to replace them. Should I add a one inch body lift at the same time? I would like a little more height than what I'm gonna get with the lift I am thinking about getting. The truck is super clean and pretty much all original. I am not sure if and where it will cause problems. I am thinking fan shroud, shifter, clutch linkage, throttle linkage, parking brake adjustment?????? Will the one inch body lift affect all of this? On my old k5 I just put a 4" suspension lift. I have never put a body lift on any thing.

Doing a body lift is not hard, just read up on it. If you look at my build thread, there is not a single thing in it that I had prior knowledge about, all was new to me. So it can be done, but before you ask questions search through some of the old threads. You should be able to find good pictures and "how to's". Then ask away with the questions.

As far as things that will cause trouble, you're about right. The fan shroud will need to be modified, any linkages will need adjusting, tail gate assist springs need bending, electrical runs need checking, gas tank filler hose may need to be extended or adjusted, and brake lines coming from the master cylinder need tweaking. The parking brake and throttle cable wont be affected, the body isn't moving enough to mess with those thing.

When I did my truck, I didn't have bumpers on or a gas tank in. It made things much easier but not necessary.

Thanks. I did a lot of searching last night. Appreciate the response.

I second Octane

Dropping the tank can be easy if it is close to empty and will save out a lot of knuckle skin getting the rearmost parts in and out. (though my frame had holes drilled in it that i could put extensions through courtesy of the PO)

Definitely ditch the bumpers since it is so easy and will also save you a lot of trouble.

Also, one side at a time, and tighten last!

I highly recommend a 1" BL with poly bushings for a bit more lift, durability (of bushings) and much improved access to "things" when under the truck.

I put one on my Suburban from ORD and love it. It seems quite stable. Have one in the box for my M1028 ready to go on.

You don't need to pull the bumpers, you might not need to trim the fan shroud. your transmission shift linkage should have enough adjustment in it. Wiring should be fine. fuel filler neck should be fine as well.

His Suburban is a 4 speed.

Do it, you'll like it once you are under it working on stuff.

Oh..... well it will definitely need an inch added no adjustment
