1 month to 8.1 swap, then another month to Nv4500 swap

87 V20 Burb- 6.2 Diesel to 8.1-Th400 to Nv4500 I got around a month to complete, then a 800 mile drive. and then a 2300 mile roundtrip
I’ve found myself in need of a lot of random engine hardware so I went to the junkyard this morning.

Look what was there! I wish I had brought more money, this swap has been nickel and diming me to death. I was able to score all the little bits and pieces I needed but if I can score some extra funds this week, I’d like to go back and nab the mechanical throttle body off the vortec and the accessory brackets off the van 8.1

Has anyone here have some ideas for a kickdown switch or reference for the th400? My burb had a 6.2 diesel so it doesn’t have a pedal mounted switch.

I am using the dbw pedal.

does anyone have a picture of a factory pedal mounted switch in the truck? I wonder if I could retrofit it.

fuel system and supply stuff.

I had a 91r2500 Burb that was cut up for parts and I had some idea at the time of a potential swap in the future so I kept the tank and lines. A few yrs later, here I am digging them up.

stock 40 gallon tbi tank, lines and sender.
I work at a parts store so I get a amazing deal on parts. It’s kinda a blessing and a curse. I ended up buying a stock replacement sender, new vortec fuel pump, strainer, and a few adapter fittings. I’m thinking of adapting the short section just to the rail. I’ll use some braided line with an connections.

Question. What does everyone do with the third(tank vent to canister?) line? I don’t have a canister since it was a diesel.
Ideas?

With all the shiny new parts in this build, I kinda forgot about the air intake.

I am going to make the stock intake tubing work if possible. I’m not a big fan of the spectre components. I’ve seen those 90 degree elbows either pop off or collapse during wot. Not sure what I’ll eventually use, but I am open to hear options.

I plugged my vent and used a vented gas cap, so far no problems.

I went down to my local hose shop and had these two lines made. Once I get the tank and lines in I’ll finish the connections at the rail.

Are others using the stock tbi fuel filter? I am going to run it for now. Maybe I’ll upgrade it down the road.

One of my parts suppliers was changing brands and didn’t want to re-box some parts so they were offering a deep discount on a few part numbers.

Scored a new dbw for $35.
Since I had the pedal in my hands at work, I went ahead and ordered two micro switches for my th400 kickdown. I’m going to just mount them right on the pedal bar and it will just touch up against the pedal bracket.

I’m hoping to scratch that off the list now.

Working on the fuel system today.
Feeding those factory tbi lines are kinda a pita. But they are in. Fuel sender and vortec pump got installed into the tbi tank. I probably had 15 gallons of old fuel to drain.

I hope to have the tank back in this evening. My kids are bored with me so I need to take a brake.

Tank fuel connections done, fill hose done. I have a connector coming for the fuel pump and sender.

I’m hoping the weather holds up and I can get the straps, skid plate and hitch back on tomorrow.

This leaves
the oil sender swap
remove the broken plug in the head and put the stock gauge temp sender in
oil cooler connections to my external cooler setup
Fuel hardline to fuel rail line
Install pedal and kickdown switch
Re-install headers
Figure out exhaust mods to headers and 02 bungs and sensors
Install the engine harness, pedal control and ecu
Install new engine bay harness(on order from Jabin Wood)
Radiator hoses
Ac condenser install
Radiator
Fan shroud
Ac compressor lines and connections
And more I’m sure. I only have 3 more weeks left.8D179D43-9958-4138-BAF6-56EBE28C1761.jpeg8D179D43-9958-4138-BAF6-56EBE28C1761.jpeg 231F1F4F-4185-482E-A8A1-3EE581FF296A.jpeg0CDF9A1F-38CA-4CF5-993E-430DCCDE569A.jpeg

I fu**ed up some sh*t today.

I busted the oil pressure sender, but didn't notice it until after the motor was bolted in. Then I remembered the busted temp sender plug on the drivers side head. It was too tight in there, so I lifted the motor out just enough to gain access to both.

Instead of just trimming down the engine bay harness in the Burb. I ordered a built replacement harness from some random guy(Jabin Wood) on F/B, a week ago. I'm sure that won't bite me in the ass. The examples that I saw from others looked great. I'm hoping I don't have to go back and trim the factory harness.

The 6.2 has a ton of extra wiring for things like, glow plug controller, glow plugs, cold start switch, glow plug temp, water in fuel sensor, cruise control, injection pump wiring, radiator water level sensor, and more.

I got impatient and ripped it all out. We shall see if I here from the harness guy this week. He said it would take just over a week.

Ahh, the Dbw pedal. I need to make a bracket so I can mount a micro switch for the transmission kick down.

I was looking at modding a original 400 bracket, but I think I'd rather make the micro switch work.

We shall see

Still no response from the engine bay harness builder.

Nothing like sending $$$ to get parts, and then nothing. I’ve sent him a few messages since the order, he reads them, but doesn’t reply. Slightly frustrating. I’ll wait 2 more days, since he said he’ll need a wk and a half to get it done.
