1 month to 8.1 swap, then another month to Nv4500 swap

87 V20 Burb- 6.2 Diesel to 8.1-Th400 to Nv4500 I got around a month to complete, then a 800 mile drive. and then a 2300 mile roundtrip
No reply from the engine bay harness builder since the 22nd of last month. I haven't been annoying. I just had a few questions for him about what I have and what he will be sending me. Tomorrow is the theoretical completion date that he said so I'll be stepping up my inquiries then.

fingers crossed that Jabin Wood delivers. The examples that others have shown me, looked amazing.

I guess I'll pull out the spaghetti of my original harness and start considering the possibilities of redoing and modding it.

It’s a miracle. The harness guy started replying today.
Good and bad news though. He basically answers every question, except the timeframe in which he’ll complete it. It’s totally unprofessional of him to just ghost me and not reply most of the time. Once again, he reads the messages but doesn’t reply. I’m really trying to be understanding and patient, but this is ridiculous.

meanwhile, I dug up the original harness from the trash pile.

So I was rooting around my dungeon of parts and came across this box of air and intake goodies. Open air elements, silicone elbow, angled and straight tubes, hose connections, clamps and a pair of flexible expandable tubes.

looks like I added more of “to does” on my list.

Last update for the evening is the wireless OBD readers. I hope to be able to see some live data.

Not much to update. The engine bay to firewall bulkhead wiring guy has supposedly sent off my harness. It’s scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. To be honest, I’m not sure if it’s really going to show up. So I trimmed up my old harness. The diesel glow plug system had a ton of extra crap I no longer need. Glow plugs, controller, cold start sw, advance sw, water in fuel sensor, vacuum regulator valve(th400 kickdown), fuel shutoff, cruise control, and a few others.

I got out the Tilden Motorsports stand-alone harness and layed it out to start a plan of attack. The essential connections are labeled, but everything else was disconnected 6 months ago. I’m sure I’ll be sending a message to Jason H at Tilden soon. I don’t want to wire things backwards.

I started mocking up air intake pieces. I bought this stuff 14-15 years ago for a different project. I just can’t decide. I’ll make the call in which one as I get closer.

It’s a miracle. The engine bay harness showed up today. It’s a day early on the delivery, but over 2 wks beyond the expected date. It looks great. Everything is labeled.

I decided to get I little more done today. I got all the bell housing bolts finally in. In the process of jockeying the motor around, I broke the oil sender again. Fml. So I put a plug in the port and I’m going to move it to the oil filter area. Problem solved. But back to the bell housing bolts. They are double ended studs, unlike the original bolts. They needed a little extra clearance to get in. So after 30-40 minutes of cussing, I dropped the transmission crossmember bolts out and lowered the angle so I could get to them. Another thing off the list. Next was the engine mount bolts. 3 per side, with jam nuts. Another pita thing, done.

I got the fuel lines from the hard lines on the frame up to the fuel rail mocked up. I’ll trim them to length and get them crimped. Next will be oil cooler lines. It will be a similar deal. Trim to length and get them crimped.

starter and wiring will be attacked this weekend and I hope to get the exhaust head pipes adapted and o2 bungs welded next week.

Fingers crossed.

Hopefully the exhaust shop will be open next week. I work at a parts store, so we will remain open as long as there is business. It sounds like if things really get worse, we are going to shut down, but will do a full store inventory to keep us busy and paid. The senior staff(age wise) has already gone home in hopes of not getting sick.

Anyway, back to the build. I think I may have read something about a oil bypass thing? Can anyone extrapolate? Can I block off the lines if I can’t get my lines done in time?
Help!

I got the old external cooler lines removed in the hopes that the hydraulic shop can crimp some new ends on it. I ditched the stock system years ago. I run a transmission style log cooler up front under the front bumper, and it also goes up to a front mount plate cooler that’s mounted on the radiator. The one thing I forgot to get off the old motor was the oil filter sandwich plate that I used to have a port for a oil temp gauge. Ideas on a location for it? I may just order another CVR adapter and see if it will fit.

Fingers crossed the hydraulic shop is open tomorrow and the exhaust shop is open later this week or next. If I hear that they plan on closing, I’ll haul the burb over and get it done sooner.

Gasoline going in for the first time in its life!

I got the oil cooler and fuel lines done today. I’m hoping to do a leak test tomorrow or the following day. I’m really close now.

I am not sure if I’ll need to put the o2 sensors a bit further away for clearance purposes, so I ordered a pair of 12” extension harness’s. A stock ecu mount came in today. I hope I can find a decent spot for it.

Cool build! I see that your screen name is justified as I spied a '67 to '72 burb in the pictures. Nice!

Thanks. My first truck was a 83 K20 Burb. It was handed down from my older brother, and my dad bought it new before that. Many great memories there. It’s story should be a whole other thread. Long story short. I don’t have it anymore.
I went through it head to toe. Paint, bumpers, lift, 454, built 700r4

Pardon the next couple posts, I’m distracted by reminiscing.

I’ve been obsessed since my first.
My wife has a 91v1500 with a 6” a spring lift. 35”s on 17”s. 10/14bff axles. It’s a fully loaded model. We’ve had it since 2011. It was on 18” rims then. I’ve also been through nearly everything on that one.

I also have a project that started as a 78k20 burb. I bought it in 2010. It was bone stock when I got it. 305/465/205 with 10/14bff. It’s seen a 2.5 lift, then a 4”. It has 4.56 geared 1 tons. It’s all locked up. Detroit rear, Grizzly front. Yukon shafts, hardcore hubs, crossover steering, tons of Off Road Design goodies.

I’ve driven that thing everywhere. It’s been through hell and back. Many of off-road adventures. It’s a life long project. It’s seen many different Powertrains. At the moment it sits with no motor or t-case. It’s waiting for me to get back to it. I got big dreams for it.

But let’s get back on track.

where does the vacuum connection go on the fuel pressure regulator? It was capped when I got it from Tilden Motorsports

image.jpg

Should be a vacuum port on the intake to pull from. If it was a later intake with a returnless fuel system the port might be capped off on the intake.
