Hey there, ammature home builder here.
Looking to upgrade to a couple of 1 ton axles in my 1986 Project K5.
I found a pair at the local junkyard from a 1987 1 ton Ford. Question I have is how easy is the swap? Will there be much fabrication involved. If so what would be the easy axle to swap to.
FYI. 1986 K5, 700R4 w/ NP208 and a 3" suspension lift.
Thanks for the advice. I'm really looking to learn a lot with this build.

The Ford front axle will have the diff on the wrong side plus it's set up for wider spring perches than a Chevy.

Hold out for Chevy axles. The Chevy axle is 95% plug & play with brake hoses being the only difference. A 14 bolt from a 1 ton will work but the shock brackets and spring perches will need to be moved, a 14 bolt from a 3/4 will be plug & play except for the u-joint size.

Doing this with the 1 ton gear should only be brake lines, shock mounts and spring hangers right? And only if it's dually otherwise just lines and mounts? Perches on the dually can't go out because the drum so only option would be hangers or link and coils?
