I picked up a 1 ton booster and master cylinder combo from O'reilly today expecting a 20 minute swap on the booster (yeah right!!). It's a Cardone model 50-1007....basically a rebuilt Delco Moraine...I could still make out the original stamp on it. My firewall brakets appear to be 1.75 to 2 inches too short and the bolt holes don't line up. :doah:

Here's a pic of the two boosters side by side with the 1 ton being on the right.

70Jimmy mentioned having to put shorter brackets on his rig when he upgraded. Others have bolted straight on. Is the fix as simple as going to the junkyard and finding the "longer" brackets?? Any idea what model and year I'm looking for??

Yes. There's no play in either pushrod.

I think your booster is a pre70 drum brake setup. While I'm not entirely sure (don't see the old buggers very often) I think a 71-72 bracket will get you going.

Just went and measured a disc brake bracket and it measures about 5 inches from center of rod hole to booster mounting surface.

I may have an extra if I dig deep enough but I'd highly recommend going to hydroboost and being done with it and that whole hoky bracket mess.

Yep you need the other bracket, I had to do the same thing on mine, which had the 70 in GMC case or pre 70 in Blazer booster. Just went to a junkyard and hunted around. Easy swap.

Geeez...if the booster that was on the truck is a pre-70 drum/drum booster, it's no wonder my brakes sucked when I put on the 14FF with discs.

I'll hit the local PickNPull and see what I can dig up. Thanks for the input.

Keep taking good photos of all the parts you are using (and discarding) with that tape measure when needed.

We could use a nice clear set of instructions on the swap, since it does seem to get asked a lot. :deal:

I am doing the exact same thing with mine right now. My new booster is for a 72 3/4 ton Suburban and my 70 had power drum brakes. I have to take some pictures tonight to compare the two and post them up with the measurements. I may need to get different brackets as well.

Ya, your old booster looks nothing like the original booster I had in my 72. The 1 ton does look like the one I swapped in. You can see my factory bracket sticks out much further than the one on yours.

Wow...Burt took a brief break from baby duty! Congrats again.

Back to the booster...went to the local PickNPull and scored the only 71-72 bracket they had. I ran by the shop to test fit it with the new booster and everything looks good...I took the old one with me to the salvage yard so this was really just a sanity check. Once I get it cleaned up and painted. I'll do a write-up with pics on the booster install.

Thanks for all the input guys!
